True, but I'm thinking of the more predominant dialects of southern
England here, not you common-as-muck norvern types ;-)
It's how I was brought up too.
That's an odd one - though I've certainly come across people who
reserve the term for the main meal of the day, whether it be midday or
    evening.

whilst I know what you're getting at, lunch (particularly, say, Sunday
Lunch) is also a multiple course meal.

    depends dunnit.

its lunch for midday meal at work or dinner at home.

and its tea for the evening meal but dinner if we go out to eat.

guess the latter also agrees with the multiple courses thing.

Not quite. I merely feel no need to hide my working class roots or
imitate the vaingloriousness of those feigning station.
I call it Sunday dinner, as we rightly do around these parts.

Hooorah for a bit of Southport/Lancashire reason.

Dinner is lunch as in 'dinner ladies' at school.

    Southern Dogs. Corrupting our language.

And being corrected by a Bog Trotter.

    Oh the shame.

Up here they have their dinner at lunchtime. Most confusing.

Not posh, but certainly painfully middle class. And very 80s.

The cunts in the other tents at Dodger's Point looked both pissed off and
worried, the next morning. Hardly surprising given Dodger's impression of
a hippo being raped and the late night discussions relating to tents and
    fire.

It would appear they just plotted up without permission - Donna was ready
    to give them a roasting.

but not to the extent that you'd avoid using words like
    "vaingloriousness" and "feigning", of course!
what, even if you eat it at lunch time?

    That's weird.

  14. And very nice the Aspalls stuff is too - either the premier cru or the
    regular.
Tastes like *proper* cider and not chemical pop.
We went out for Sunday lunch last Sunday and the place that we went
(pub/restaurant on the outskirts of Bath) had a very nice draught cider
on - very similar to Aspalls.
