I think perhaps all that wood cutting made her tired.

Champ, please don't assume that you speak for the whole newsgroup.

A public row is always entertaining.

  3. I suppose I ought to confess that once, it took me more than a fortnight
to not get to the Isle of Man for the TT. I *COULD* bore you with the
story if I could bear (not Bear) to revisit it.

It'll be close, I've only got a couple of weeks until my next semester
    starts.

Yeah, I'm thinking of offering my expertise to NASA in their probe programme
    ;-)
Heh - rattle throwing on ng doesn't generally equate to falling out IRL, in
    my books.

I can just be doing without having my parade pissed upon at the mo, with
erroneous conclusions being jumped to, IYKWIM.

I hardly think a one-off rattle orbit constitutes a public row, but if it
    makes you happy...

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure the prospect of BGN turning up at Avebury is
reason enough for me to turn up.

Now Gyp on the Harley on the other hand... amusing purely from the "how
many different ways will he try to die" aspect.
Actually, a Tuesday at Avebury might be more pleasant than a Wednesday.
Certainly quieter (assuming the locals/plod haven't found a way over
the winter to have the meets stopped) but there is something nice about
    a mid-week,mid-summer('ish) ride.
Seven hours and twenty one minutes - well I suppose that's possible,
but I would reckon on it taking longer than that if you're not using
the A30 except for the last bit. Especially if you get stuck in traffic
anywhere - a distinct possibility in July in Cornwall.

    Distinctly *POSSIBLE*.

When my sister was at Exerter Uni, she drove from there to Hornchurch
(Essex) taking in London in a Morris 1000 - averaging 60 mph.

Several years ago she was lecturing her daughter about driving too fast,
and I made myself rather unpopuler (with sis, but not with niece) by
    reminding her of that exploit.

Other exploits were burning a hole in a piston of our brother's Frod
10?E and being banned from driving her husband's Austin Ruby. (Since it
    wasn't converted for racing.)

    1) Did she do it in the middle of summer ?
    2) Last time I looked Exeter is somewhat nearer than Land's End, with
    better road provision too.
    3) A Morris 1000? Okay so the road provision may actually be better now
than then, but I bet there are a lot more cars.

If you're not doing the main road, many of the roads down in Cornwall
are (IMO) not blindingly fast and some of them, whilst most enjoyable,
are not something you can _consistently_ do 60mph on.

  17. She was doing well - especially since the top speed of a Morris 1000 is
only just over 70. And it takes 3 weeks to get there..

  18. Can't remember - it was a long time ago - and, incidentally, when the M4
    ended at Maidenhead Thicket.
This is true, but the roads then were not what they are now - this would
    be the late '60s.
This is also true, as I allowed when mentioning the Hornchurch to
    Edinburgh jolly on a comlot.
You may say that, I couldn't possibly comment - while I have Cornish
antecedants, I've never crossed the Tamar.

But I believe you, all the same.

(I did average 60 mph once between Ewen Cameron's in Lochearnhead, and
the Blackford Hotel (where I was working), and was really chuffed,
especially as it was on a Jampot 500cc AJS single and the road was
    windy, and had hard edges.

In the morning I called myself all the names under the sun and then
some, as the bike would only do 80 flat out.

Though I'd only had two Laphroaigs during the whole evening, I never
touched a drop of incohol again before riding. Mine dew, then, Laphroaig
was 80° proof and the measures were quarter gills...

And after that, if anyone asked if i thought alcohol affected my
driving/riding I'd say: "No. I know it does."

So when I pranged the Vin (and myself) I could truthfully deny being
under the influence, despite having been in the Greyhound at
Childerditch the whole Sunday lunchtime. Grapefruit juice does not a
    drunkard make.

  19. Well, it must have had a tuned speedo then, as I acquired it later, and
it topped 80 without any trouble. And it only took a weekend to get
    there.

Friend I was asking if anyone knew (up ^ there), Pat Rooney, had a BSA
three-wheeler into which he put an Austin A35 engine - same as the
Morris 1000, but different carb and petrol pump amongst other small
differences. He filled it with Sprite bits and the speedo showed 90, but
it was rather like riding in a mechanical rabbit even with the
    (friction) dampers screwed down hard.
