I hereby give notice to UKRM of my intention to hijack EOSM 2006 as a
celebration of my 40th birthday (which is this coming 25 July).

I shall expect lavish attention and lots of free drinks....

    ;-)

<waits for the sudden stampede of people finding other things to do instead>

be able to pop round for drinkies
You're a girl, aren't you? Did I speak to you at EoSM?
    August 19th & 20th innit?

If you're stopping in Swindon overnight, I'll probably be around for
drinkies. In fact if you make it the 26th, you can do the Wednesday
night Avebury meet. That should drag out Gyp, Verdigris, dwb & maybe a
    few others too.

The route is over a thousand miles from end to end and is pretty much
final right now, depending on what happens en route.

So, if it is the weekend either side of that date, it should be a MOSM and
the EOSM can stay as it is.

Have a look at how much motorway work there is. Very little. We
planned the route to skip most of it as one would get bored very
quickly if it was a "UK Motorway Tour."

  10. Jeez, I know Ive been gone for almost a year, but I didn't hear
/anything/ about the off motorway speed limit being lowered to 40mph.

Scotland would appear to be part of the dark ages when it comes to
    roads.

I used the following rules when calculating the duration/distance:

    Driving speeds (mph)
    Motorways: 74
    Other limited access roads: 62
    Major roads: 40
    Minor roads: 34
    Streets: 19

    Fuel consumption (mpg)
    City 45
    Motorway 55
Tank capacity 12 litres starting @ full with a 15 minute
    fag/rest/refill stop every 100 miles

Yes, I have been pessimistic on the route rules, but one has to factor
in time for fixing things that fall off en route and naff traffic plus
the human factor. One could easily do the route in a day (and a bit?)
if you fancied doing only motorways for 800 miles and giving it beans
from beginning to end. In reality we are likely to be going much more
than 74mph on motorways and more than 40mph on major roads but I would
rather allocate too much time to do the trip than not enough. We will
undoubtedly bump into friends and UKRMers en route which will help
    pass the time.

IIRC it's Lozzo's around that time too, as well as mine on the 17th of
    April, I'll be 29.........................................again
Could turn out to be quite a piss up then..........although I *won't* be
challenging Mike at the Black Horse on a glass for glass Scotch drinking
    session.

If you recall, you were present when Mike was talking about his
birthday in 2006. He'd been wanting an excuse to get his dancefloor
down in the dining room again, and reckoned he needed an excuse to do
it. You offered to dance with him, to make it worth his while - that
put a sparkle in his eyes. Thus it was decided to make the date of
EOSM 2006 coincide with Mike's birthday - then he got all misty.
I don't have a problem with that providing you aren't intending to
take over Mike's birthday celebration, as not only is he a fine
feller, he's done a lot for us and he seems to do little for himself.
