Engine trouble with ZZR 600

  1. Hi,

Wonder if anyone could offer advice on the following problem I'm having.

Bike is an H reg ZZR600, with about 39,000 miles.

Was working fine until a couple of weeks ago when I took it in to be
serviced. As well as normal service stuff, they did the valve
    clearances and adjusted the tickover.

Since then I've had the following problem.

Bike goes fine until I get to 90. To go any faster, you have to gently
ease it up to a hundred, and that doesn't always work. Sometimes when
it gets to a hundred it then picks up again and works properly.

The garage had another look at it, and said that there were some little
widgets around the needle that were missing which they replaced [1] (The
only difference that this has made is that the fault now occurs
    consistantly rather than erratically).

Garage now says that they're at a loss about what to do next.

[1]Don't know what they're called, but I can draw a picture of what they
looked like in the Haynes book the garage showed me.

Well, that *is* part of the normal service stuff...
Does it happen at the same engine revs every time? IIRC 90mph on a ZZR6 in
top gear is about 6,000 rpm. What happens at 6,000 rpm in any other gear?
IANA Mechanic, but I would have thought step 1 would be "Re-strip, clean
*thoroughly* and then get somebody competent to reassemble".

    Which garage and where?

Keep taking it back to the garage, I take it the bike was fine before
    the service.

  4. Thanks for the reminder, kept on meaning to test this myself.

My not entirely scientific tests show that it seems to be linked to
    speed rather than RPM.
