Prices are similar, from LHR to Aukland

  3. I've not flown either route, but I'd probably choose ANZ.

Emirates first. Never flown with Air NZ, so can't tell you if they're
    better than Cathay or not.

Emirates are very, very nice up the front end.

I've never flown cattle class with them, so cannot comment.

It's worth pointing out that they have some *stunning* offers from
time-to-time on business class. Last trip to SA cost us £1300 quid each
with full service, limo transfers, the whole nine yards.

My sister paid slightly *more* to go BA "Premium Economy" (albeit that
    she booked later).

If one is sitting in Business class it'd be Air NZ by a country mile.
Lie flat beds and direct aisle access. Check the routing though as
transiting via Los Angeles is a PITA as you still have to clear US
    immigration with all that entails.

If you're going to be sat at the back then I doubt there's much in it.
I'd still probably go for Air NZ as friends tell me they have more
legroom but www.seatguru.com will no doubt give you all the details.

Air NZ and Cathay are reasonably direct with one stop / change in
either LA or Shanghai (Air NZ) or Hong Hong (Air NZ and Cathay)

Emirates normally fly London - Dubai - Singapore - Melbourne -
Auckland. The routes vary but there's always at least two stops.

Drop us a line if you need any info on life down under.

Got a price for Malaysian Airlines? Good service, usually good fares.
Auckland <> KL leg often empty and good chance of upgrade.

Air NZ fly via LA so you will have that BS to put up with and the
chance of a stopover in KL is not to be sniffed at.
