Can anyone tell me what the fine/ Points/ Jail for riding along the
emergency lane is, in Victoria? I see a heap of bikes doing it every
morning, and I know it must be illegal, but obviously not too many
repercussions?!? I have no intention of starting, but it's probably
    safer than lane-splitting.

Can't tell you the penalties, but have a quick think about the state of mind
of the motorist who decides to pull into the emergency lane.

They are most likely distracted by the phone, engine failure, flat tyre,
sudden illness, collision or whatever made them move over into the emergency
    lane.

They will probably not be indicating, they will probably not be doing a head
check, and they wil probably move across quite suddenly.

Do you want to be there?

In Perth a couple of months back a car driver pulled into the E Lane
to pass somebody. There was a car parked there. He's never doing that
    again.

    emergency lane.....waddafuggwit!!!

up at the front.....i couldnt get the image of 'sadie the cleaning lady' out
of my head for the rest of the day....

The offence is "Failing to obey a traffic sign" Penalty is whatever the
penalty for failing to obey a traffic sign is. Same as driving through a red
light I think. Probably 3 points and the best part of $200 fine.

  9. That should keep everyone in line ;), with the possible exception of the BDSM crowd.
