Give up now while you can save face. You are obviously judging other
people's ability by your own low standards.

Remember, in every test, a mid-market hot hatch / performance saloon has
beaten a bike round a track.

OK, so it's not the real world, but it does sort of tell a story.

That sounds more like it! I was looking for it on Parkers, but according to
them, there isn't an 04 vRS, which was as helpful as i'd expected to be
    honest.

    What bikes?
Yes, it says that it's 'not real world', it's the world of performance
figures written in magazines by people who'll be writing for a Hi-Fi or
cookery magazine next month. Just the kind of world you might be happy
in, but some of us are real world riders with a modicum of ability. On
a closed circuit with short straights and tight bends the car is faster
round the corners. Add in traffic, local knowledge and a determined
rider and the car is history.

    You hope.

Good luck next time you try it. I hear Strangeways is nice this time of
    year.

I wouldn't suggest you try it. You'd either hurt yourself or be pulled
by the local beat bobby on his Raleigh.

Like I said, some of us have a modicum of ability and aren't afraid of
    opening the throttle.

Complete thread hijack - proud mum moment, look away now.

Number one son is Macbeth in school play - only it turns out it isn't
just a school play but a 'schools do shakespere' competetion and
they'll be performing it at the local theatre. I'm dead impressed -
though slightly concerned that he auditioned for Lady Macbeth - still
she does have all the best lines.

    Really?

So thats why Tiff (5th Gear) had to find a Mosler MT900 to beat a stock
    Ducati 999 around their track?

And that (IIRC) 3 other supercars didn't beat it, Gallardo and two
others I can't find the names of.

So, what you're actually saying is a mid-market hot hatch or saloon is
faster on a track than a Lambo Gallardo...
    You got that right.

Loz is 110% right when he says you've obviously never, ever opened the
throttle fully. Maybe at < 3000rpm in 5th or 6th.

Do you really think that suggesting I've got no bollocks will make me
    get a 10R? I'm trying to persuade myself I can't afford one but it's a
    losing battle.

I know I would and I know I'd get away if the roads were in my favour.
Champ just happens to be quicker than me (and even more stupid) so I
wouldn't doubt for a minute he'd go for it.
Have you suddenly changed your bike for a gixxer or similar? I
wouldn't try to outrun any plod car on a VFR.

Ginge has seen me do it on the way to Dover, same trip as my bike ate
its swinging arm. M25, about 5am and I lost them. No problems at all.

It's about confidence and knowing your licence was toast before you
even started trying to lose them.

I've been chased by plod twice that I know of recently and once many
years ago. The only time I was 'caught' was the time years ago and the
**** was on his manky old 800cc BMW. He recognised my bike and crash
helmet and was waiting for me when I went home 20 minutes later after
initially losing the cheating bastard. The two occasions when cars
have chased me it's been dark and I've just fucked off into the
    distance with no problems.

  17. Whaat?

All of my running vehciles are tax and insured. At least one of them
    doesn't have a legal plate.

At least one of them, will very shortly no longer be owned by me. It
will however still be taxed and insured - by me.
