Some of us are going again so being a kind hearted sort of person I'm
going to offer an open invite to anyone interested in joining us on
    this mid winter beer binge.

    http://www.bvdm.de/index.php?id=47&lang=3

It's pretty much a self help kind of trip where you'll be kept
informed of planned ferry crossings and hotel bookings but the rest is
down to the individual to sort out. Googling will tell you what's
involved and the only hint you'll get from me is that I'm taking an
    outfit next time.

It might be cold or it might not be, it might snow or it might not
snow, we might kick off WWIII or we might not but what is certain is
that we'll have a laugh and anyone who goes can confidently take the
piss out of anyone who doesn't.

This year proved that sub £1k bikes are the weapon of choice with K
series BMWs being ideal due to their decent tank range and their
ability to cruise at 80mph or more all day but we had a Smart Car and
a 400 Kawasaki make the trip so anything's possible.

We don't push ourselves when it comes to knocking out the miles with
the first day being about 350 miles to an overnight stop in a nice
little hotel and the next day being about 200 miles to the rally. We
go from Harwich to the Hoek so an overnight beer session sets the
scene and the return is basically done according to the Haynes book of
lies. My plan is to travel out on the Tuesday night and arrive at the
rally on the Thursday afternoon then set off for home on the Sunday
morning with a Monday night ferry back to Harwich.

It's not an expensive trip because we steal wood from neighbouring
properties and do the cook on an open fire bit for food. Beer's
reasonably priced on the rally site and the hotel was about £35 per
    night last time we went.

Nobody died this year so don't be afraid, just say you're interested
and we'll sign you up to the mailing list. You know it doesn't make
    sense...

This one's like a TOG trip on acid so you'll be certain to enjoy
    yourself.

It means you pay a deposit on the bottles when you buy a case of beer.

I know the above is total bollocks but why let that get in the way
    etc..

Did something get lost in translation?

    <quote>
Because of increasing environmental demands especially in the local
state of Bavaria we recommend that participants don't use one way dishes.

    WTF?

So dishes = bottles? Blimey, they must spill a lot.

No paper plates. Please. Seems quite clear to me.

On the other hand side[1], "The Elefantentreffen is a quiet and very
traditional Ralley" raises a smile. It sounded like WW2 was still
going on with the fireworks and what have you. Very little quiet
    about the elefantentreffen at all...

[1] Used by Germans and (I think) the Dutch when trying to present an
    opposing view when negotiating/arguing/whatever.

I'd like to do it, but it's not the ride that's the problem, it's the
    time off.

What's the score with the SOB to the South of France run, anyway?

I raised an eyebrow at that. Earplugs definitely required but at least
    there's no fucking french techno.
We have to source fire balloons.

http://www.apra.org.uk/ufoballoons.htm probably gives enough info for
molishing but 50 decent ones are about 100 quid.
    I like it.

I still intend to do it but I need a working SOB, time off and sprog
    wrangling.

    Are you going again?

I'll be taking the solo GT750 - now I've got it above 40mpg - the Guzzi
is getting too fragile (read "unreliable") for this sort of jaunt.
