  3. OK. I tried using Mail and asked it to attach the pic and send and it
    wouldn't.

  4. "Tony Conlan, forecaster at MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press
Association, said the nip in the air would give way to warmer, rainy
weather." -- I thought you weren't allowed to say that these days? Even
back in the 60s a Lismore radio breakfast announcer was suspended for
saying, "And we've just heard that the Japanese have launched an astronaut
into space. Yes, there's a little nip in the air this morning!"

Mined you, around that time he also got suspended for announcing,
"Girls, do you want something red and hot and throbbing between your legs?
    Buy a Honda!"

So... we're sat in the Gasthaus zum Lowen in Randersacker, several
beers on, on our return from the Elefant and reviewing this thread...

There are a couple of error corrections that may be made, one of which
    is on behalf of Simon...

Simon's keen for me to point out that he did not 'abandon' his bike.
He got to the top of the hill and dug a shallow grave in the snow for
    it.

This, of course is after he'd binned it on the brakes...

Simon's twisting my arm to point out that the number of people milling
    about on the road covered in snow made it difficult to ride on;
personally I had no problems at all so I don't know what he's whining
    about.

Have you set up an email account?

  8. 3G in my case.
A small circle for GPRS and a wifi logo for, well, wifi.

    doetnietcomputeren, Jan 31, 2010
  9. Yes, of course. It's set to my main email addie and I've used it before.

Quick silly question - what icon shows when there's a 3G connection? Is
it 3G or E or either?

    3G = 3G connection

    E = EDGE connection.

EDGE will usually be slower, but it can be marginal.

Going on a solo bike is daft, but as going at all is daft that's ok.
    Assuming suitable preparations.
Going 2 up on a solo as Platy has is, well, <insert words of choice>

Got txt from Donald proclaiming that snow claws worked really well on the
    Duke.

    3G. E is Edge.

Even if I get neither I can still send email. With attachments they'll send
    slowly, but still send.

Do you have it set to ask you if you want to join WiFi networks?

If it's set to NOT ask I have noticed on a couple of occasions it'll join
weird unsecured networks that I'm not aware of, be unable to send the email
via them (it tries those as WiFi is faster than 3G) and then not try to
fallback to other routes (i.e. its cellular data connection).

So I've now got mine set too ask to join other WiFi networks, I say "No", it
uses 3G or Edge and no more problems.

  14. Same here. Dunno why it didn't this time. Said the address was
    unrecognised, but it was valid.
No. Only switch that on when I want wifi.

Mine does the same. Right PITA cos if you set it to ask, and then use it
as sat nav in the car it's forever asking if you want to join
    'smiths@72' unsecured etc etc etc.

There are a *large* number of 'unsecured' wifi
networks that turn out to be secured after
all - at a higher level that the wifi.

e.g. BT Openzone, FON, others I would think.

You get to connect to the wifi for free, but
you have to log in if you want to send any
traffic other then to the login server.

Oh indeed. But it still pops up the bloody message. Which makes
    navigation harder.

Definitely a change in the 3 series firmware as my old 2G iPhone worked
great, if it couldn't send data via wifi it fell back to cellular.

  20. I thought it was pretty simple, but perhaps I misunderstood that:

Catman's unit was telling him about every new connection that became
available, asking him if he wanted to connect, which he found to be
    quite annoying.
