Electronic tagging for bikes moves that one step closer

Further: "Saying that so-called bullet bikes or crotch rockets are "wreaking
a tremendous amount of havoc on our roadways," one Maryland lawmaker says
the state should consider banning the motorcycles from street use. A crash
on the Capital Beltway Wednesday night killed two people and left 15 others
injured. Police say that the accident happened as they were trying to stop
    one of these speeding motorcycles."

In terms of injuries caused, I make that Bikers 0, cops 17. Excellent
    result for law enforcement.

  2. All I know about it is in the article which spoke of 'force'. Should
that be the case then it is a simple choice. I'll not have one, I'll
not pay any penalty for refusing to have one. It's called civil
disobedience. When lots of people do it, it makes a difference. [1]

You remember the Poll Tax? Did you pay it? Did you go to court? Did
you help inform people of their options? Have you ever taken an action
against something you have vocally disagreed with? What sanctions did
you risk? That's a general question to the group as well.

I may find myself saying 'bollocks' underneath the security cameras
with microphones at this rate.[2] I'm sure you, or someone, can spot
the reference. We may not like each other, but there are some things I
    think that we agree on.

I think you are wrong there. The vast majority of uninsured and
otherwise illegal vehicles on the road are cars.

  7. It's a possibility, depends on how they intend to bring it in. I'll go
noisily with publicity though. And then maybe someone else might make
a stand. Be interesting to see which bits of legislation they intend
to use to 'force' the issue.

I notice you snipped my asking what have you actually *done* about any
of the things you've said you're unhappy about.

Let's start a bit lower down than the going to court and risking
imprisonment for your beliefs. How about meeting an MP? No? Letter to
an MP? No? Letter to a local paper? Copy and pasted a standard email?
    You suspect wrong.
    More fool them then.

In outright numbers, sure. As a percentage I'm not convinced.

In any case, speaking for myself I break far more laws when on two
    wheels than four.

  11. Indeed yes, there is go9ng to be the however long it takes these days
for them to form our opinion and then they will announce a whole new
strategy in road system management aimed at helping us reduce our carbon
footprint as a nation even further and they will call it Carbon Related
Additional Premium and we will beg them to make it legal and they will
in a flash cos it is so fucking cheap.

Odd, I find that, TBH. I may do, in a given journey, less of
overtaking on white lines in a car than on a bike, but it's not as if
I don't do any. The same is true, I reckon, for just about all the
laws I break on either. Speed limits of all flavours? Of course. Not
stopping at stupid Stop signs? Definitely. Err, actually, apart from
careless/dangerous interpretations of these sorts of things, I'm
struggling to think of many other laws I do actually break.

OK, the opportunity to cross white lines, jump red lights, speed
excessively (i.e. twice the limit kind of thing), overtake on pedestrian
crossings etc. etc. etc. are far fewer in a car than on a bike; even
when the car I'm driving is faster than either of the BMWs I ride.

Additionally the 'flexible attitude' to road tax, MOTs, insurance etc.
etc. is not as flexible with a car as a bike.

I think bikes were built to encourage bad behaviour. Thank heavens.

    OK, with you on that.
But not here. As a youngster, unable to always afford such niceties,
I'd sometimes go without, and I was into bikes not least because they
were cheaper, but that's not really the case these days, and ITYF that
there are proportionally vastly more untaxed, uninsured, unsafe cars
on the roads than there are bikes.
    Indeed.

I don't agree, some of the car driving i see is utterly fucking
criminal, most of the bike riding I see is very reasonable. Like
anything, you get the twats that have to **** it up for everyone.

If i do see bikes getting ridden daft, it's usually race replica
sportsers with a power ranger at the helm.

I saw one yesterday & i have never laughed so much. He must have
thought he was Rossi, his bike & hiw leathers told us he was. Even my
seven year old laughed at the tool.

Well, the MOT and tax is the one for me. MOTs because, to be blunt, I
don't have enough time and things catch me unaware. Tax because the
fucking insurers don't always have the details on the website.
Insurance, only really when picking up a bike but I'd guess that's more
likely because I don't buy shite old cars or more to the point when I
buy a car it needs to be prepped before I can collect.

Re the proportionate thing on bikes v cars, well unsafe yes I'd agree
completely. Untaxed, uninsured, I'm not so sure.

In Bradford? LOL! He was riding like a pillock, but he looked bloody
    daft.

Why would anyone need to look like that? If doesn't compute in my
    brain.
