Electrickery help

  1. Got a prob with the Turbo. It's charging the battery at nearly 16volts,
    bit too much that....

Using the trusty Electrex faultfinder[1] I can see that the regulator is
outputting .7v on the Red/White output wire when it should be .2v and
this is the likely cause. The culprit is supposed to be a bad connection
from the Red/White wire to the + battery terminal. I've checked it all
and cleaned it all up and it seems fine, resistance test also checks
out. Does the Red/White wire from the regulator usually go straight to
the battery, or does it deviate to any gizmos on the bike that I can't
see? Bit of a general question but most bike charging systems seem very
similar so I hope somebody can help.

Probably have to try another regulator as I can see the charging voltage
climbing as the regulator heats up. It starts at around 15 volts at idle
and goes above 16 volts. Remarkably the battery has lasted 100 miles of
this, I can't see it lasting much longer.

  2. add another 2V cell in series, nominal 14V should be happy enough with
charging at 16V. and you'll get lovely bright lights. for a while...

  3. How? Sorry bit of an electrical numpty...

Yeah, the indicators flash a bit quick, but that was handy as it's what
    made me think to test..

  4. how what, the cell or the lights?

BTW, it was a tongue in cheek sort of post. fixing the regulator is far the
    best option.
