    Hi All,

I'm fairly new to motorbikes, I picked up a 95 Kawa EL250 a few weeks
ago, and have noticed a couple of probs and am hoping someone can offer
    some advice.

The fan on the radiator seems to kick in often. eg; if I stop for 15
seconds or so it'll come on. Does anyone know if this is normal for this
type of bike? I've checked the radiator level and it seems to be normal.

The other thing I've noticed is that at lower revs, if I give the
bike a bit of throttle, it starts to feel like it's struggling, like the
clutch is slipping, or the motor isn't getting enough fuel. If I change
up a gear, the problem is still there, but not as bad. Obviously this
wouldn't be normal for any type of bike, can anyone tell me if there's a
typical problem that may be causing this?

    TIA,

    Alex.

The problem is at _low_ revs, and it gets better when you change
_up_ a gear? Eg: the revs drop _lower_?

If the clutch is slipping, engine RPM will increase even though
    road speed isn't.

Is that the EL with the GPX250 engine? I imagine it'd respond better
if you revved the ring out of it. Sure, lugging it makes it sound
more like a cruiser, but it's a 250, after all.

  3. doesnt sound right
maybe the ignition is too far advanced

that would cause both these symptoms...overheating and 'breathless'

or maybe the intermediate jet is blocked?

It's hard to know whether the fan thing is indeed a problem. I had an
EL, and I can remember that the fan would turn on when I got home,
whilst I was opening the garage door to park the bike. I never really
took much notice of it other than that. It could be that it's running a
little warm, but as long as the fan isn't running all the time, I
    wouldn't be too concerned.

If what you're talking about is a misfire, then I'd start with spark
plugs. Also make sure your air filter is clean, and that your choke
    isn't stuck part way on.

I had amazing (unexpected) success by using some cheap (super cheap)
injector/carb cleaner ($6 a bottle) in a bike that had similar symptoms
    to this.

And yes.. the EL is a detunez ZZR/GPZ motor. It has a _little_ more
bottom end than a ZZR/GPZ, but still needs a fair few revs to make it
    behave nicely.
