One quick question.. can a faulty/ worn out battery cause a bike not
    to tick over ? It's a cbr 1000F?
I am thinking that the voltage is just too low, since it will not
charge up properly. I have a new one on order anyway !

Don't be surprised if the new battery goes flat too. As it's a CBR I'd be
checking out the charging circuit before my new battery was fucked by one
of Honda's shitty regulators. Also check the earth straps as a bit of
corrosion will cause a voltage drop.

Oh yes, it can. In fact, some bikes won't run with a totally fucked
    battery.

Ask Ginge. Coming back from Chimay this summer, the battery on his
ZRX1200 was *totally* dead (the TC hadn't thought that two days on the
charger in order to get any life out of it was odd). As we headed out
from Dover to Schloss Timo, where a new battery awaited, he couldn't
use the brakes because the current drain caused the engine to die.
Likewise the indicators, which cut the engine every time they flashed.

thanks for replies, I have just taken deliver of 300 quids worth of
    spares from David Silver..
including a new battery. I have never even seen genuine Honda brake
pads before.. they look lovely. and the mirror was almost the same
price as the rubbish copies they sell on ebay !

  5. An account with Mr Silver is a terrible, terrible thing.
Acksherly, this I've noticed sometimes. Some genuine parts are nowhere
near as pricey as you might think.

  6. Hmmm... depends on what a "clutch" comprises.

Complete set of plates, springs, gaskets, whatever: - slightly on the
high side, but not too bad, given the type of bike, as you say. And a
piece of piss to replace, as well.
