I'll see if I can find a cached version somewhere.

Pretty much says it all really [1]. Weird blokes wearing various dead
    meat products for hats.

    Cheers

    Paul.

He still hasn't answered the question I posed - how do you get a billet
crank to run in an engine designed for ball & roller built-up
    cranks.....

(One of our bike club has just got banned. Parkie is well into his
sixties, and the beaks took a very dim view of him doing 108mph on his
900 Tiger. A six week ban and a ukp300 fine. You get less for killing
    someone.)

Certainly not! I'm sure I was by no means the first, but I had an
XT500, hot cam and exhaust, z900 forks, kh250 front wheel and brakes,
flat bars, gold anodised frame fully exposed, no battery...

Ran it for about six months, fully legal, even added lights(12v) when
the evenings started to draw in. Fun, it was :) Then it blew up :-(

What is it about you UK folks at the moment? FFS you all know the
risks of speeding - if you get nicked take it like a man, can't you?

Better to wait outside the local council offices. When one of them *elected
representatives* appears chib the ****. Make sure they know why. They waive
the speeding charge for the more serious GBH charges. Get the social reports
in, small fine, couple of hours comuuuuuunity sombulence. sorted.

    Policies for a happier Britain

Well I never had any trouble 'keeping up' with 9Rs on the BOTAFOT and
I was only on the Sprint. Mine dew, this was Bear riding, not your
good self, so you may still have a point ;-)
Similar spec? I reckon they'd dust the floor with even a gixxer thou
if you chopped one cylinder off...

That'd be part of the vastly superior design Bear was on about then.

    ReeeeeeeSuuuuuuuuuuuult :)

Your wrong actually Andy. Modern Jap bikes are fookin' amazing and if I
could afford to run a new fast Japper in addition to the other bikes I
want to keep in my stable I would. I just can't cope with the
depreciation, rate of consumption of consumables and the speeding fines.

OTOH most of the 70's Japcrap was, well IMHO anyway, crap.

I suppose you could say that so were the brit bikes of the same era. So
it's really just a question of what kind of crap you are prepared to put
up with. Being a machinist at the time, I preferred the handling and
efficiency of britters and was willing to put up with oil leaks and more
frequent minor mechanical failures, which were generally roadside
fixable. I understand and appreciate that others were prepared to put up
with jappers for the converse reasons.
