eBike will never be getting any business from me.

I thought stuff like below had been outlawed?

The following conditions apply to the offer to pay five hundred pounds
upfront: The anticipated award of general damages in respect of the
injury/injuries you have sustained must exceed one thousand pounds.
Liability in respect of your claim must not be in dispute. Any monies which
you are awarded by way of damages at the successful conclusion of your claim
will be paid by the paying party to eBikeÕs appointed solicitors and/or
representatives who will account to you for any monies remaining after
deducting the sum of five hundred pounds. In the event that you do not
recover at least five hundred pounds by way of damages or do not pursue your
claim for damages for any reason, you will remain liable to refund to
eBikeÕs appointed solicitors and/or their representatives the upfront
payment of five hundred pounds or any part of that payment still outstanding
after any damages received have been applied against it. The decision of
ebikeÕs appointed solicitors and/or their repr esentatives is final in this
    matter.

Sounds fair to me. You have a claim against someone and they're going
to give you cash pending resolution of the claim (£500) if for some
reason the claim doesn't resolve how they thought then you owe them
    the £500.

My new Auntie Carole Policy Booklet says pretty much the same "If we
need to, by law, pay something that we don't want to, and we wouldn't
normally pay for, and the only reason we are paying for it is the law
in the country that demands it says we must then we will: But you need
to refund it to us afterwards."
