  2. I dunno. Men wear dresses, hold hands in public, and kiss each other on
    the cheeks.

    (Could be France, mind....)

    You don't think he's a loon?

I use cash. And don't bother with loyalty cards. I do make online payments
    with a visa card though.
You shouldn't talk about TOG like that.

Of Dunstall alloy barrels for a Norton:
And how much is a set of barrels and liners for the blandola buzzbox you had
    in mind?

I only use loyalty cards when I fill up with fuel. They must think I
survive on a diet of diesel with petrol for dessert, followed by a
    cigarette.

More importantly, what is the likelihood of needing a set?

Ah yes, I get lots of points off the Morrisons Fuel station next to where
I live. 1 1/2p per litre towards a five quid voucher to spend instore.

Great when you run their LPG at 29.9p/litre I can tell you.

You'll very rarely need them, and if you ever do you just throw the
whole engine away and stick another one in. Pip bought a complete RF900
engine/box on eBay for less than the cost of those barrels.

Because the bikes depreciate like a brick down a well.

    Why would that be?

More people bought them, because they were better built, and
consequently you find alot of them out there for sale. Precisely the
reasons why Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki etc are still making bikes, yet Norton
[1] are nowhere to be seen. Norton made shitloads of bikes, where are
they all now? Gone and forgotten.

[1] Norton as they were, not the current two companies that trade on the
    name.

No. It's because no-one wants 'em after they've done more than 60k miles
    because they are shagged out.

Yep, get a gullible public to buy short lived crap, then sell 'em another
in the latest colour the following year.

Rubbish. There are loads of old Nortons still on the road.

Bollocks. I'm yet to find a truly high mileage Norton or any other Brit
bike, most didn't manage over 20K before they spat their guts because of
the awful build quality. There's no denying that the Japs have
engineered their bikes in a far superior manner to anything that was
built by the British manufacturers of old. You can't claim that Brit
bikes were superior, it's common knowledge that they were absolute crap.
It works for me. I'm not that much into unreliable nostalgia where bikes
are concerned. I move with the times, maybe a couple of years behind
them, but at least I'm not stuck in the long forgotten days of yore. I'd
only ever consider owning Japanese classics anyway.
No, there are lots tucked away in heated garages for 10 months of the
year after having thousands of pounds thrown at them.

    @news.individual.net:

Whoa. Stop there. My Matchless has been used on the road regularly for the
last seven years and it has *Never failed to get me home* Having read all
the tales of woe and joy on ukrm over the last few years, it would appear
there are few Jappers which can claim the same level of reliability.

For example, if the battery is flat on a Jap bike. You cant start it as
easily as a magneto sparked britter.
Whoa. Stop there. I have other bikes too as well you know. OK I haven't
had the time or cash to have tham all T&T'd over the kast 18 months, but
I'm not stuck anywhere in 'the days of yore'. I enjoy and appreciate the
art and design of bikes of all ages, unlike the blinkered, opinionated and
uninformed tripe you spout on this forum about british bikes. I think Jap
bikes are great, I think Brit bikes are great.
    Exactly. I rest my case.

ITYF there are lots of 'classic jappers' treated the same way. Still at
least you agree that loads of Nortons aren't gone and forgotten.

  18. Depends on the bike. My monkey bike and the DT50 both start happily with
a dead battery. So does the 400/4, come to that.

    Don't you believe it.

The thin end of the wedge will be followed by adding N.I. records, medical
history and prognosois (DNR instructions on a compulsory to carry ID
    card!) Criminal records etc etc.

    TS185/250, too.

Well, not *easily*, but it would, with a bit of work.

The Wing can be bumped into life very easily, too.
