It is now so slow, it takes several minutes to get from the logon page to
    'My Ebay'.

And there is always some part of it that doesn't work.

How can they **** it up so badly?

It really is time for Google to step in and do the job properly.

Works fine for me. Are you sure it's not a more local problem? Like, your
    PC?

They have changed something, I can't leave myself signed on anymore, I
have to sign back in everyday, whereas before it was possible to stay
    logged on for days.

  7. IIRC the front ends are now Mr Gates software, Sometimes it's OK mostly
not. I wonder if they know.

  8. Indeed they have, and it happened months ago - "keep me logged in on this
computer" only lasts for 24 hours.

    Yeah, I noticed that too.
Sometimes I need to log in if I close the browser window and go back in even
if the box "Keep me logged etc etc" is ticked.

    It's a feature, not a fault.

  12. Ebay tends to run oddly on Fridays because that's when they do
    maintenance on the (US-based) servers.

    It's working fine now.

No spyware on this Linux system, which, as it happens, was freshly installed
    yesterday.

    I see.

"a system error has occured" (yep, "occured") in the middle of an Ebay page
is a problem with my configuration?

It is run by a bunch of bumbling idiots.

There is always some part of it that's is broken and it can take them weeks
to fix problems. A few weeks ago, they wiped all my saved searches and when
they eventually replied to my emails all they could say was something to
the effect of "yes, some saved searches were lost".

However, having investigated further today, some of the speed problems may
be a routing issue I need to take up with my ISP - if I CBA.

I'm using Opera on a three year old Windows 2000 install on PIII laptop
and haven't had any problems with eBay or any other major site.

I'm not in IT or use Linux though.
