  3. Hmmph. I just left a neutral for a **** of a seller who charged me £8
for a package that cost £2 to send. I wouldn't have minded paying £4 or
£5 for the package in total, but that extra bit just got up my nose.

For UK I charge going rate for 2nd class recorded + about £1 for
packing and taking it to PO, which is more than reasonable I think as I
pack stuff _very_ well. This chap wanted more, so I had to put myself
out a bit more, I see no fault in offering a price and someone
    accepting it.

You know the postage before you bid ... if you don't want to pay it
then don't bid, but if you do bid don't fucking moan about it later ...
    ;)

  5. I object to the **** making up for a disappointing sale price by padding
the postage, that's all. As it happened, the postage cost wasn't clear
up front. As I say, I'm not unsympathetic to the overall cost of p&p, I
would have cheerfully paid a fiver, but to be charged 8 is too much.

Let's see; scale it up, how happy would you be to be charged 80 quid for
something when you know the going rate is 50?

Lets scale it down. How happy would you be to be charged 8 pence for
something when you knew the going rate is 5?

I know what they say the postage costs. if it doesn't cost the amount
that they state then I expect a refund. postage should be what it
actually costs, I'm not paying their wages for taking it to the post
office, just like I don't expect mine to be paid.

If its a small amount then I'll let it go. however I have been
overcharged by a tenner for postage in the past which was taking the
    piss.

I have been sent by a seller (and sent out myself) refunds for postage
when its been over the estimated amount.

I understand, I just don't understand bidding when the whole cost isn't
known. I've done it in the past but once bitten ... On ebay there's
_always_ another widget seller along shortly. ;)
Fine, if I've made ?30 on the unit cost of the item ... ;)

And what about the cost of the packaging? We've used a whole roll of
bubblewrap on some items, which ain't cheap.

So the time taken to wrap it, the materials cost to wrap it, the time
taken to take it to the PO amounts to nothing?
Overcharged? ... or you bid knowing what the 'postage cost' of the
    auction was and still bid?

Postage cost isn't simply, for many people, a five minute walk to the
local shops and back. If someone bid on an auction of mine, knowing
the postage costs which I always state clearly, and then wanted a
refund they could go **** themselves. They don't have to bid if they
dislike the cost. I have been asked to lower costs and if someone does
this before auction end I'll look at it and what the overall value is,
but _not_ after the auction has finished.
But generally it's not an estimated amount. I _never_ estimate postage
costs, and whatever PO charges I put up for an auction, I always stick
something on for wrapping etc and time taken, for which I see
absolutely no problem. No-one has to bid on my auctions, but if they
do then they pay whatever the auction is set at.

Frankly I got fed up of wrapping things up properly and only charging
'the postage cost'. I buy in brown paper, corrugated card, stiff card
and boxes. I also make proper labels and use recorded post simply to
make sure that what I sell gets to the customer _exactly_ as it leaves
me and is as traceable as necessary to cover me under ebays (and
Paypals) own policies if something does go wrong with a delivery.

As I said earlier, " You know the postage before you bid ... if you
don't want to pay it then don't bid, but if you do bid don't fucking
moan about it later ... ;)"

this i have no problem with but then i get something in a small jiffy
bag with no extra padding and a post office label with £2 postage it
pisses me off that I've been charged twelve quid.

so ok a quid for the jiffy bag. this leave nine quid profit. that's
    two hours at minimum wage.

its this I'm objecting to. a quid or two ok maybe but not that much.
