"mufti" is about right, his other items are shedloads of pre-enjoyed
trainers. All described in christmas lights.

I don't think TOG has the imagination for this level of abberation.

They gave them away with the first of the 350LCs, not the 250s

Basically, after the roaring success of the 250LC, people went mad and
clamoured to get their mitts on a 350 version. For some reason Yamaha
had the shipment of 350s delayed, which didn't please lots of people who
had put down deposits on the first 350s. When they didn't arrive Mitsui
Yamaha doled out excuses and then promised everyone who'd put down a
deposit a new 'painted to match the bike' Bell Star lid as a sorry.

Dunno abut the 350s but they deffo gave them away with the 250.IIRC I
ordered mine early in 1980, paid 1031 quid I think, and got a nice
letter from Mitsui saying sorry for the delay, have a helmet on us.

How weird, I remember my mate telling me about this cos he had to wait
about 4 months for a 350 and he said only 350 pilots got hem. Well,
    every day's a school day.

I hated the LCs when they first came out, I was a huge fan of the air-
cooled bikes and these new-fangled water-cooled Johnnies were about to
make my spangly new V regd RD400F look positively archaic.
