My ex always called me a "Child of Thatcher" - Not that I'm at all
Tory or Conservative. He says that I come out with some Thaterrite
    things.

I think I was speaking to him about Jumpers for a motherboard, I went
into a Computer Shoppe and asked if they had any, he asked how many I
I said "two will do" and he didn't charge me anything and I didn't
understand why. I mean, even a couple of pennies would be about 5
times their value. "You're a child of Thatcher, Nick." Perhaps I
don't understand it. I was never around before Thatcher.

You know the price of everything, and the value of nothing.

And I say that as someone of '77 vintage.

I get what you're saying. I just expect everything to have a price.

How many are left? Was Hong Kong the last?

Are islands like the Falklands, Tristan da Cunha, etc, classed as
    colonies?

Commonwealth dependencies I think. Same sort of status as Gib and Malta
and Tonga innit, we let them have their own police but insist it is our
    army.

Malta is totally independent, has been since 1964 IIRC. The British army
moved out in the mid 70s.

Is really? I thought they still had Lizzie on their stamps? Mind you
on that basis I could be well in favour of independence when Big Ears
    gets to the throne.

Malta gained independence in '64 and became a republic in '74. The
    Brits moved out in '79.

Bit of a bummer that, as my ol' man was meant to be posted there, when
    the Army pulled out.

Ah, crafty. I see that the old word "colony" go pushed into the history
books and "Dependant Territories" came into force. I'm surprised that
it was so long ago (as in '83)
    Interesting.
