Dyno, or not dyno... that is the question.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by jackhackettuk, Jan 27, 2007.

  1. My CBR has got a full Yoshimura system - road legal, and reasonably
    quiet.

I'm wondering if it's not been jetted up to match though, as it seems
a bit flat above 11k in the higher gears, especially compared to the
last CBR I had, which had something like a Micron system but also had
a dyno print out to prove it had been set up properly.

This one runs spot on - no flat spots mid range, actually very good on
fuel when ridden sensibly and generally feels as good as a bike that's
covered 30k and been looked after, should feel like.

So... given all the above, does it seem feasible it needs setting up
properly on a dyno - I suspect it may be fuelling a bit lean at higher
    speeds / rpm.

If it's a nod, anyone got any recommendations as to someone with
'clue' worth using for this in the south east, and what's the likely
    cost?

I am actually wondering if I've in fact outgrown 600s at last...

  3. That sounds very reasonable if it needed rejetting as well.

I'll give them a ring on Monday.

    Cheers.

I wouldn't bother. Mine runs fine with home made exhausts and is quicker
    while gaining in fuel economy.

I've never put a bike on a dyno, but if you're thinking that it needs
it then do it. Even if it doesn't need it, at least you'll be sure in
the knowledge and you can crack on with riding it.

It sounds to me like he's worried putting it on a dyno will harm the
    performance.

As long as he can reverse anything that's done, I agree with you.

  7. No... what I don't want is to throw money at it having it dyno'ed when
it won't have the desired effect, which in this case is getting the
bike to breathe better at higher speeds as it feels flat above 11k
compared to some of the other CBRs I've had in the past.

It's otherwise all good, the mileage (30k) looks right for the
condition, plus it has plenty of history / old MOTs to back up the
    mileage.

The last CBR I had was a bit ropey to look at by comparison, had what
I seem to remember was a full Micron system and had been dyno'ed - it
pulled through much stronger in sixth if you were thrapping the nuts
off it (on a private road).

Tried drilling some holes in the airbox?
Having it dyno'd will make it go better or give you want the operator
wants you to give it like better mid-range/higer up/better fuel economy.

I've had one bike dyno'd which was not a CBR so naturally I know
    everything about it.

Dave at DHR is a down to earth no bullshit sort of bloke! I had a quote from
shithouse mcycles in Ashford for £350 + to sort the fuelling out on my NC30.
They said the can I had was not suitable and they would supply a new one. I
would need a dynojet kit and a K&N filter.
DHR was recommended to me by one of the guys at Kent motorcycles so I popped
in to see what he had to say about my quote. I was told that dynojet kits on
NCs are crap, K&N don't make filters for them anymore and my scorpion can
was like most cans, a 2 inch hole in pipe.
He also said that the bikes already in a high state of tune and I wouldn't
get massive gains but they could clean up the fuelling by shimming the
needles, jetting and Modify the airfilter and that was about that!
The dyno runs showed a nice clean curve and 60 bhp. The bike ran sweet as a
nut for the 15 k I put on it and the girl I sold it to toured all over
Europe on it with no problems.
I later had him custom map my cbr 600 Fsport, that made 108bhp and went like
stink, for the price of £110. You cant be fairer than that?

    Whinging Courier says...
Your exhausts are 'Pixie' brand cans.
