    Hey *you* asked :)

ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate / Fuel Oil) is what I was thinking of, though
    commercial ones have stabilisers added

  6. Diesel fuel and fertilizer come immediately to mind, though I'm sure
theres tons of other stuff thats just as easy.

Always nice to see the UK'ers in here, though the last x-post promised
a gun thread but turned into an odd historical bit about the lineage
    of the royal family :)

I wasn't aware there were any doubts about GW's lineage?

  11. As an unintentional by product of making biodiesel...
One variation of the process uses sulphuric acid to break down the fats
in an initial phase. If, in blissful ignorance, you ignorantly used
nitric acid instead, you could end up with a goodly quantity of
nitroglycerine being deposited in the base of the reactor vessel.

Most assuredly not recommended... unstable as ****, I would have
    thought.

A mate of mine has one arm to prove it !
He also had it confiscated several times during the 80's due to using
it as an offensive weapon ;-)

    [Snip splosives]
Similarly were our intrepid chum to accidentally nitrate certain forms of
paint thinners or a stuff called blanketwash (printing thingy) they would
create for themselves a nasty yellow precipitate, known formally as 2,4,6
    trinitrotoluene and affectionately as TNT.

Fortunately it was reasonably stable :)

I've just remembered something else that goes boom.
    Caesium, in water.
You remember at school when you dropped little bits of sodium into water and
it fizzed away like a bastard?
Or maybe the teacher demonstrated it rather than letting you at it yourself.
    But whatever.
Well presumably you also saw what happens when you drop the next element in
the series into water, being potassium?
Fizzed rather more enthusiastically didn't it! Burst into flames and went
    pop!
Well there's three other elements in that series, being rubidium, caesium,
    and francium.
Unfortunately francium is radioactive and has a half life measured in
minutes, so whilst it *is* possible to play with it it's not very practical
to do so. At any one time there exists only a few grammes of francium in the
    whole world.
So we're stuck with caesium as the most reactive of the alkali metals to
    play with.

You should chuffing well see what happens when you drop it into a bucket of
    water!
We were shown a film of this being done, a little tiny piece of caesium
dropped into a glass bucket of water, it blew the side of the bucket clean
    out!

Very nice... now where do I get some :)

I noticed some red-light cams in Sacramento, Ca, but i would consider those
