So DVLA can link the computers that tell them when your Tax disc has
expired to the one that sends out an automatic £80 fine but they have no
idea how to link it to the one that tracks cherished transfers.

So yesterday I get a nice letter saying cough up £30 quid for the amount I
underpaid when I taxed vehicle #$$$&&&. as I had only paid ~ £60 instead
of the ~£100 that they think I owe. Why because when #$$$&&& was taxed it
was a 1.4 Rover. but now its a Saab 9000.

    Grrr

Sounds like a deal for £30.

Hows about this then. My brother has just bought a pug 205 diesel which was
imported from ireland in 1997 and declared manufactured in 1989. You'd
think then that they'd have given it an age related 'G' plate. No chance.
The twats have given it a 1999 'W' plate! Must be one of the only 205's on
    a W-reg!!

it's missing an "It" at the start of the sentence, otherwise perfectly
    understandable, surely...

It's fairly commonplace in the vernacular, meaning 'One of the few'.
If we're going to start pedanting about everyday expressions... I'm
    all for it, actually :)

I'd have said not. Using the word 'only' implies there's only one of
them, so it can't be 'one of the one' as it were. If he'd used the word
'few' it would have made more sense.

There's a site dedicated to this sort of thing:

    http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~brians/errors/errors.html

however, I feel that it's "explanation" of why "one of the only" is
    actually wrong.

It points out, as you have, that "only" has its root in "one" and
indicates uniqueness. However, consider this sentence: "Andrew was one
of only 5 posters to ukrm consistently considered a twat". Apart from
the obvious falsness of the statement, the use of "only" is valid.

And it is this variation of only that applies to the phrase "one of
    the only".
Well, if you were Elly, would *you* let him **** you?

I apologise profusely if my grammar is not upto the required standards for
    posting on ukrm.

I lay the blame on my bad edumacation. And the Stella artwas... er...

  13. Just ignore the pedantic cunts. Be a fucking cold day in hell when none
    of them make a mistake.

Hypcritical bastards, the lot o' them... why I remember when they only
had one sentence between them and that was shared out on alternate
    Thursdays.
    That's fine.

Noticed you have 2 x gs850's. A friend of mine in norfolk is after a tank
for his. His is the custom jobbie (GS850-G?), US import, with the tank
filler over to one side of the tank not in central position like nearly all
UK tanks. Any idea's as to where one may be bought? We thought rocking
horse poo was rare until we looked for one of these.
