See as Crimbo is coming up, I want a DVD writer. What's the up-to-date spec
    on layers, speeds etc etc.

I've tried searching, and the best seems to be 16x speed with 2.4 layers?

    Cheers,

16x DVD+/-R, 4xDVD+/-RW, 4xDVD+R9 (aka dual layer) is where it seems to be
at. I just picked one up for 40quid in the sales.
I think the 2.4 you quote is one of the speeds of the model you were looking
    at.

Note that there aren't actually any 16x disks available at the moment.

And finding dual layer discs at a resonable price is also tricky.

Did it come with any software, or did what you have already suffice?
