The owners manual for my 2003 ST4 Ducati is giving me some grief.
I'm trying to dial in the suspension to suit my varying needs and have just
    got the front end right.
The rear end is a different story. I'd like to begin with it set to factory
specs and make the adjustments from there. My problem is the book has a typo
    or misinformation.

The owners manual gives the following factory settings -
Compression - 12 clicks (top screw).
Rebound - 2.5 turns (bottom screw).

On the bike however the Compression screw has no clicker (range is 4
turns) - and the Rebound screw has a clicker (range is 40 clicks, which
    takes 4 turns).

Does anyone know if the manual is simply ass about.
In other words should Compression be 2.5 turns and Rebound 12 clicks.
Or can anyone with a manual for any of the ST models tell me what their book
    says.

    Thanks
    Jarrett

I've an ST4s, which has rebound damping, compression damping, and
pre-load. The 2 damping controls are specified as 14 clicks (and
although I haven't actually touched the compression damping, I think
they both do indeed "click"). Pre-load is adjusted by the little knob
just above the footpegs on the right-hand side, and this control does
not "click" at all - but the default is specified in terms of the
spring-length, rather than the control position.

Personally, I'm having trouble getting used to the effect of these
controls on the bike. What I need to do it commit some time to going
over the same bit of road over and over again, changing the settings
each time. I find that if I change the settings, then continue forward
onto different road, I have trouble working out what difference is the
bike, what is the road, and what is simply my head *trying* to find a
    difference!

Haven't even *touched* the front fork settings (mainly as I can't feel
anything "wrong" at all with the front end, so have no idea what I would
    try and do anyway :)

I did find http://home.iprimus.com.au/stevebm/suspension.htm, which is
fairly interesting and did teach me a number of things - I'm yet to
actually try specifically what it suggests though.

    Clueless-ly,

    Mark.

    Thanks Mark,
Can you tell me what the maximum (in clicks and turns) that the ST4s rebound
    and compression can be adjusted.
If they are the same as mine then maybe the same settings in your book can
    be used on mine.
For example :- if your full adjustment is say 40 clicks, does this take four
turns to reach the 40 clicks ?

    Thanks mate.
    Jarrett.
    PS
Lushy, if your reading this, what are the settings on your ST2 ?

Oh come on 'gus! I was at least expecting some interesting new form of
Ducati insult here! At least put in a _bit_ of effort please!

    Jarrett,
Ask the importer directly, after all they ended up with your money.
From the Alt.motorcycles.Ducati N.G., Norm Fraser Importers translates as No
Fucken Idea, so take it with a grain of salt.

Ok, Both Frasers and Gowanlochs had a go at gettin my shitbox to
handle remotly as good as the GSX1100 I had all them years ago, but
    gave up!

  8. Yeah well, Frasers, enough said... (I bet even you wouldn't buy a bike
off them, even though they _are_ a Honda dealer!)

You'll be pleased to hear, by the way, I've got my Monster back on the
road! (unfortunately, I was forced into it by some numpty running down
my Honda while it was parked...)

big (pretty damned pleased with how the Monster handles!)

LMAO.... they were the ONLY dealer in Sydney that would take my
shitbox off me. Nobody wanted it they said too hard to sell, adn no
    margins in it..
Comiserations that you have gone backwards, good luck getting the 250
going again... It would be better.

Heh - thats the plan, I'm out of the country at the moment though, so
    it'll be a while.

    Thanks anyway :)
