    bzzzzt!

Hows the R1 going/gone in the SBK Championship?

The 1098 is only a twin..

BIG HP figures means jack, they are great "brochure" HP, its not the
be_end_all of the race track [ok for drag racing though], history has
    proven that

U need the total package, whats the bet the 1098 leaves the R1 behind
    on the racetrack?

    out!

I had to laugh when I checked out the photos. Go into their "features"
section then check out the dash. In the oil window it says "LO" - then I
realised I think it's for the temp, but anyhoo, I had a giggle for a few
    seconds there.

Fancy that, it leaks out of the factory! Nice dash though ...

    Can we compare torque curves?

HP does not mean much on the street.

Will be strong, its the basis of Ducati's V-Twin design, its real world
    useable
    Amen and roger-that!

But the wood-ducks LOVE BIG-BHP "brochure" HP, great for bench racing
    etc

To fast a flash for me, for mine i like the Ducati GT1000, would be the
    one i would buy

So it's just a benchmark for ONE of the contestants of the World Supers?
    ~
So why did you bring it up then?

This is all working on the theory that the displacement of the donk is
    important though!
With a fixed displacement the way to get more power is to have more
power-strokes so you need more revs and smaller reciprocating parts. (But
    more of them)
Naturally this had led to the dominance of multi-cylinder machines in
    racing.

But in the real world; what the hell does displacement matter? You buy the
bike that has the engine characteristics that you like and if that engine
format needs to have a bigger (or smaller) displacement then so what?

It'd make far more sense to have a run-whatever-you-like
but-you-can-only-use 18L of fuel type formula.
Then we could see some interesting engineering on a level playing field.

According to Wiki it's 21 litres in 2007:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MotoGP
a.. In 2005, fuel tank capacity was reduced by 2 litres to 24 litres
b.. In 2006, fuel tank capacity was reduced by a further 2 litres to 22
    litres
c.. From 2007 onwards and for a minimum period of five years, FIM has
regulated in MotoGP class that two-stroke bikes will no longer be allowed,
and engines will be limited to 800 cc four-strokes. The maximum fuel
    capacity will be 21 litres.
