Is the VFR1000 a triple, or a five-cylinder? -- Conehead "Besides, I have vehicle(s), which is/(are) not used me so much of the above is something I need to abide to in order for things to get done." Hammo, in aus.motorcycles
VFR800 or a VTR1000 ... two different bikes, both Honda. Probably both go faster in red too. There are rumours of a VFR1000 being produced at some stage, but it's not confirmed yet. Cam '03 954
I've always loved the sound of the ST4s, and I'm not much into Ducati's. My Beemer friend who we met in unfortunate circumstances on the Putty had an ST4. He said he had a major service on it which cost $1500, and sold it to buy the Beemer soon after. He may have been stretching the story to fill in the time, but it would be worth looking into how much they cost to service before you buy one. I've heard that the newer Vtec VFRs have a big power boost when the valves open about 7000rpm, which can take a bit of getting used to. I haven't ridden one, but it is something to check out if you're looking at buying one. Jen's 98 VFR did the Tassie trip with ease, although 800kms as a pillion in pissing rain is not an experience I want to revisit. -- Cheers Dave (Mojo67) FZR600 Brisbane http://users.bigpond.net.au/mojo67/mojo67.htm I used to never be able to finish anything but now I
Don't be silly. You're obviously thinking of the V3R and V5R. Best ag bikes ever built. -- Cheers Dave (Mojo67) FZR600 Brisbane http://users.bigpond.net.au/mojo67/mojo67.htm I used to never be able to finish anything but now I
wouldnt be hard to geta $1500 service say at 20K tyres $400 brakes $120 chain,sprockets ?? timing belts $200 oil/filter $70 8 hrs labour @ $80/hr $640 easy $1500 and then some
Does anyone actually pay $80/hour!? Hmmmm, say 35 chargeable hours weekly @$80, by say three mechanics, deduct rent and other overheads, add margin on oil, rags, filters, rags, sparkplugs, rags,..........I reckon I could pay good mechanics $1,500 a week each and retire reasonably young at those charge-out rates, and there would be the bonus of swiping the stash out of the crannies in the fairings. -- Conehead "Besides, I have vehicle(s), which is/(are) not used me so much of the above is something I need to abide to in order for things to get done." In Sydney you sure do. $88 an hour at the non-factory BMW repairer I try my best to avoid. Dealers are more.
not too sure now...lol it WAS a VFR 800 that i saw and liked. yet to go out riding on it.. i`m going by looks at this stage. although the ST4s I saw in matte grey was a very very nice looking machine -- Cheers, Dave 1990 ZZR 600 d1 1991 EB Falcon wagon 1969 ZC Fairlane admin@loopback $LOGIN@localhost $LOGNAME@localhost $USER@localhost $USER@$HOST -h1024@localhost
I too looked at the ST4, VTR1000 and VFR800 (01 model). I ended up getting the VFR as it was not as harsh on fuel and ride position as the VTR and cheaper than the price of the ST4. I am very pleased as it is a really nice bike. My last bike was a 92 ZZR1100 some years ago so the VFR is far more nimble - plus the nice v-four engine! Take the VFR out for a ride, you will not be dissapointed RobM
I plan on it. will look at buying one at the end of the year when i get posted to puckapunyal. until then its all fun trying out the bikes -- Cheers, Dave 1990 ZZR 600 d1 1991 EB Falcon wagon 1969 ZC Fairlane admin@loopback $LOGIN@localhost $LOGNAME@localhost $USER@localhost $USER@$HOST -h1024@localhost
I tested the 03 VFR800 and 03 ST4, and took the Ducati home. A good part of my riding is two up and the only faults I can pick with the ST4 is the pillion slides forward on heavy braking due to the seat design, but a custom seat cover has fixed this. The other is the grip height is on the low side and if spacers are fitted the bars hit the fairing on full lock. (I haven't come up with an answer for this one yet). All in all I think the Honda was a more comfortable bike on longer rides, but the fun factor, good looks, resale value and superb handling of the Ducati won me over. The Ducati is without doubt the finest bike I've ever owned or ridden. My 1000km service cost was around $300 and I'm told to expect under $500 for the 10000km servicing (so long as there are no unforseen problems). They are both good bikes and I'm sure you would be happy with either so good luck and safe riding. Cheers. Jarrett.
