What's the problem with the 1100? Aesthetics or mechanicals?

Ooh. A CBX would, for some reason, be *very* you. And I'd be very
    jealous.
I always thought red was the nicer, but I seem to be in the minority
    here.

If/when you get one - CIHAGM? One of the bikes in my list of fave
    classics that I've not ridden.

There's a very active owners club for them - I was chatting to a bloke
at Avebury a year or two ago with an immaculate one, and he was
telling me that they have big european get-togethers, which are very
    well supported.

Not really, no. It's rarer but no more desirable, IYSWIM.[/QUOTE]

As an owning proposition, perhaps slightly less desirable - the 1000
had slide carbs, whereas the 1100 had CVs. Which means the 1000 is
    much worse on petrol.

  5. Bit o'both really. They don't look as nice as the early 1000, and ISTR
    they had gearbox issues.

  6. My mate's 1000 had gearbox issues too. But it is possible that he abused
it a bit - like he was known to go trail riding on it:)

    Old, fat, slow?
The day you have any reason to be jealous of me is not likely to
    happen in our lifetime.
I think I prefer the red - I just wondered which was more "in demand".
    Oh, aye. No wheelies, mind.

I've just about made my mind up, now.

I think I've got the 2-stroke bug out of my system.

I just want to make sure I get a *good* one, not a project.

    Trouble is, they ain't cheap.

    top three or four.

  11. ditto.

    red ones do look nice.

Mind, there were a pro-link type up at Aber once, with a bloke going on
about how marvellous it were. Later, it declined to start. Oh how we
laughed. We did give him a hand to push it though :)

  12. Year, I've thought of one of those too. I had an 1100 back in about 1987 -
it was an 1100SZ IIRC, 2-tone seat and silver/blue. Even back then, I rode
it for 2 years/20000 miles and sold it for more than I paid, despite buying
from a dealer and selling privately. I really really wish I'd never sold it.
Yes, the high speed handling was a bit suspect, it was a beast around town
and a peculiar instrument of torture for a pillion but it looked fantastic,
went OK and for a UJM it actually had character. The GSX1100EFE that I
bought to replace it was faster, more comfortable, but just dull in
comparison (not a bad motor though, just ask the drag bike guys). Selling it
was definitely the biggest (bike-related mistake) I've ever made. Good luck
    finding a good one...

  13. In a way, I rather fancy a 1500 'wing, and take all the fairing off it, make
it something like an original GL1000.

That sounds like a man who has never seen a GL1500 with the plastic
    off.

Every single panel clips into its neighbour, from the fairing nose to
    the rear mudguard.

Many of the ancillary devices attach to the inside panels of the
    plastic.

They look *awful* unclothed. Much like their owners.

  17. I've seen a thing called an F6C which is a 'wing engine in a cruiser frame
with oodles of chrome... rather fun in a OTT sort of way.

F6C is the wonderfully inspiring name for the Valkyrie as chosen by
    Honda UK.
