They just sound like any other tuned car with a similar engine to me,
whereas Scoobies sound like nothing else.

The evidence would seem to prove otherwise.

I know all the rules, but as I don't proof-read Usenet, the occasional
    ****-up gets through.

how come. Oh wait, are they some sort of vaguely unusual engine config
    - boxer or something?

Yep, boxer - but they still don't sound like other boxers.

  9. Again, I agree. It's just tasteless. It says: "I bought this car, not
because I intend to use it off-road, nor because it's better than a
sports car the same price, but because it's imposing as **** and proves
    I know nothing about cars."

there's a thing - has anyone seen a Cayenne on the road that wasn't
either black or dark metallic grey?

    I haven't.

I think it's quite reasonable to get a Cayenne Turbo, if, say, you
live somewhere you can only have one car (or only need or want one
car), and you want a fast, well-built one but you also have children
and stuff that you need to be able to carry.

Again you misunderstand me. I was not referring to where it is built
(indeed, I really don't give a monkey's where my cars, or anything
else, is made). What I meant is that it is British in it's demeanour.

Having said that, I heard the unmistakeable gruff rumble of a scooby
the other day, only to turn round and see an old VW beetle go by.

that's what it says to you. To me, it says: "I've fancied another
Porsche for a while now, used to have one when I was a bit younger, but
then, marriage and kids responsibility and that. But now, I've got a
Porsche again, but can motor down to Tuscany with the wife and two
    young-uns in the summer".

And as for "imposing as ****", do you find black transit vans
"imposing"? They're about the same dimensions as a Cayenne.

    I'm so out touch
I think they both look like tarted up shopping trolleys. The scooby
did 'invent' the evo class, tho, didn't it. I still don't mind.

Well, you're not immune - check your attitude to scooters. And you
used to have an opinion about the 'typical' driver of virtually every
make of car on the road.

sorry, but my ding machine's broken at the moment so you'll have to
have a "what he said" instead.
