It's my line and I'm sticking to it.

Mind you, the slight problem of not having a spare 16 grand is
precluding me from owning one at the moment.

    [of Porsche Cayennes]
How the hell is an Aston Martin more understated than a Cayenne?

It's just a big-ish[1] car with a Porsche badge on it.

[1] I don't think they're as big as a Toyota Landcruiser, for instance.

I'd like one too - with a chromed roll bar and fake gun-rack, natch.

is that all they are? I assumed they were a lot more than that.

Still, I've resolved not to buy a new car until I've somewhere to park
    it.

I think I'll stick with the Dodge Ram SRT Quad Cab 8.3 litre V10.

    It is to me.
Dunno about that - Range Rovers, X5s, Cayennes, etc always look *huge*
to me, probably just cos they're tall. Whereas an Aston, or a Jag XK,
or similar, just seem 'quiet' in comparison.

The XJS didn't come until a couple of years later.

    Indubitably.

I'll pop round this evening and take it away, shall I?

I fact the Aston (DB9) shouts ****** to me. The costs of ownership are
horrendous and I've never seen one on a track day, that being the only
place to use the performance. It's just too much money to risk on a
    track for most folk probly.
Loz and I were looking over one at Snett. Nice enough, amateurish
interior though, TVR do the basics handbuilt thing better IMHO, with
stoopid rear seats (no leg room at all) but the most **** off gorgeous
brake callipers you could ever desire.

Well, they're taller than sportscars, no question. Quite often "huge"
4x4s actually have a pretty small footprint (our Cherokee, for example,
is smaller than a Ford Focus, just a lot taller).

Don't get me wrong, I like sportscars better than 4x4s, and as soon as
we move to somewhere that has off-street parking for cars as well as
bikes, I'll be buying one (though probably keeping the Jeep for
    practical things).

They're about 20 new, but you can get a year old one around the 16
    mark.

Isn't that an argument often used by the anti-bike brigade? If you're
just talking about top speed I'd probably agree, but "performance"
includes acceleration, & you can never have enough of that in a car for
road use, unless you're happy sitting at 40mph behind a queue of cars
    without overtaking.

Yup, although I'd have a bike rack instead of a gun rack obviously.

Shiny diamond plate lined load bay as well.

You'd need to pay for the MOT and tyres to make it legal. And 4 grand
cash to pursuade me as well.

Urgh, foul things. When we were in Florida last year there was a
surprising number of them parked upside down in ditches by the side of
    the freeway.

That's what I'd have thought - there are probably very few situations in
which urban Cayennes find themselves where a Renault Kangoo wouldn't have
    been perfectly adequate.

I know which one I'd have bought, given the money, though.

(actually, probably a Renault Kangoo, an Impreza WRX, a Caterham and a
    Fireblade)
