    ....is not rcommended.

Got a phone call late last night. A mate of mine and his buddy are in
Harrogate hospital after a head on collision with a car carrying a
foreign family the *wrong way* up the slip road onto the south bound A1
    near Boroughbridge.

Apparently both vehicles managed to shed a lot of speed before impact,
but the heavy combo amp in the back of Phils estate car crushed his seat
forward and he has broken his breastbone on the steering wheel. Ouch.

His mate in the passenger seat suffered cut and bruises and minor
concussion. I have no word on condition of the occupants of the foreign
    plated car.

I'll be off to visit him a fair bit over the next few days I expect.

    Lets be careful out there.

Apparently both vehicles managed to shed a lot of speed before impact,
There was a report by Top Gear / 5th gear type programe before christmas
about objects in the car and what happens in a 30mph accident. Very very
scary stuff. For example a road map could quite easily take you head off -
the demonstration with the tool box in the boot of car was quite spectacular
with the box and tools separating forcing their way through the rear seats
    and out of the windscreen.

I'd say your mate was very fortunate. Just hope he gets better fast.

    Jesus H Christ.

I was nearly offed by an old man driving the wrong way down the A21
dual carriageway a few years back. One hopes the furriners here are
    insured.

Mind you, I've made this mistake in France......

    The update:

Phil has been discharged from hospital with a cracked sternum and told
to rest at home where he's less likely to catch MRSA.

We went round with a bottle of single malt medecine.

He's glad to be alive but can't laugh about it.
    Did manage a chuckle tho'.

The other driver has bust both legs.

Goes out to car and removes AA map of GB with its rather nice hard
plastic covers from the back shelf of car.

I had a friend who had the back of his head fractured by a nodding dog
his wife insisted he had on the back shelf.
