    Ain't dat de troof.

I went past a couple of cars last night. There was a bus coming in the
other direction that would have had time for a count of five before he
passed me flashing his lights and waving his fist.

I fucking near did a U-turn to chase the **** down and suggest that if
his judgement of speed and distance is that crap, he should get another
    job.

But I was in a hurry.

A pedant writes: it is 40mph, if you're in a lorry, and on a single
    carriageway main road.

Too right. And they flash their lights at you for having the temerity
    to do it.

I think I mentioned the simpleton who made that signal to me after I
    overtook him recently.

I concluded that he was trying to warn me of a dangerous situation in
some way, so I did an emergency stop in order to stay safe.

I don't think he'll be doing it again anytime soon.

Probably. But it made me chuckle, so that's all that really matters.

    <Rant>

I have two pet road-rage inducing hates that I seem to be encountering
    more and more recently:

People being in the wrong lane and blocking. At the eastbound exit of Jn
8/9 on the M4, there are TWO lanes that are for the A404. The right hand
of those two lanes is NOT for tossers who are trying to jump the queue
to go straight on to Maidenhead, who subsequently block up the road for
    everyone else.

    and

Tossers who think it's THEIR right of way when joining a motorway and
that *I* should move to the middle lane (when there's traffic coming up
behind), or that I should slow down to let them in. FRO, you have an
    accelerator/brake too.

Nope. Never any traffic on the ones we seem to end up on. Might be just
the time of day. One of the attractions of France (or at least that
region)[1]. Or maybe I'm just more chilled because I'm not working.

[1]tailgating seems to be a more popular sport there.

I seem to find the guys who have the outside lane free, but still fail
    to move over.

I also frequently find the ones who decide to attempt to join a fast
flowing motorway at 45MPH. They're *huge* fun.

Yes, and if you don't do so, you get i) middle fingered, ii) flashed,
iii) yelled at iv) all of the above.

I have an ..erm, let's say, acquaintance who drives HGVs and that
happened to him one day. He couldn't be arsed moving, so just sat in
lane 1. Cue much crunching. He pulled over, plod arrived and matey in
car was still ranting. Too bad, it was his fault, and he had pay for
damage to his car, and to the HGV.

(personally, I'd have seen the dumb spag executed, but then I'm maybe a
    little tolerant ...)

People joining are in an acceleration lane and have nowhere else to
go. The one thing they shouldn't do is slow down excessively or brake.

If I have traffic joining from my left I always move over or slow down
to let people in. Anyone who doesn't do the same for me can take
    his/her chances.

No we only have the short Cherbourg/Caen/Le Havre to St. Lo (There's a
little bit of autoroute from Le Havre but that's it).

Back tomorrow for the weekend, can't wait.

Oh yes, we used that when we moved in by CRV and box trailer using the
Le Havre overnight crossing in 2003.
You can't be too far from Flers or Domfront then by the sound of it. A
very pleasant area. Had a relaxing gite holiday around there when the
lad was a toddler and did a hillclimb at Gers (where the pottery museum)
    is in 97.

Only three weeks until my next trip.
