If you think of Morris dancing as just a bunch of blokes re-enacting a

If you think of it as something with continuing meaning in our society
then it is quite reasonable that it should change over time, and there's
no reason that this should necessarily exclude the admitance of women to
    the team.

Does the word "tradition" have no meaning for you?
It only has meaning in terms of its being a tradition.

    Not a lot, no.
So what is the value of it? Why do it at all?

Some hundreds of years ago Morris was important to people and had real
meaning. But if all you're doing is copying what they did all those years
ago it's pretty much a waste of time. It's not like you can seriously
claim if has any great aesthetic appeal.

Things like Sealed Knot are a bit of fun, and their "battles" can be
entertaining; I suppose the same could be said for Morris dancing. But
in both cases the very fact that it's being done in the 21st Century, by
people for whom it really doesn't have any meaning makes it a poor copy,
so why not let the girlies play, too? If it *does* have meaning for you,
then why not develop it and let it grow, rather than stagnate.
