dream bike, no limits..

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Bren \(aka mulberry\), Mar 2, 2004.

  1. If you could create your dream bike, what would it be/do/have?
only limited by your imagination and desires here :)
forget practicalities, expenses and the such...

I know I would like a bike, for touring, that had you laying more on your
stomach with your legs out behind you, rather than the upright tourers and
laid-back cruisers that we actually have.
I found the pillion pegs very comfy on those long hauls from Syd to PI ...

...and I'm sure I've seen such a bike-gination somewhere, movies etc.. Tron
    perhaps? hmm, somewhere...

    cheers,
    B.

I would love a 6 litre bike, or maybe a bike with a sprinter engine (dual
turbo). but thats just because im young and love to dream... (not about
    dying)

I want a Battlestar Galactica bike that flies. Rocket launchers would be
good too. I'd like to be able to live in GTA3 world where I can smash stuff
    and shoot people...

A BMW R100RS, nicely restored, with the clutch, transmission, electrics
and cycle parts of the later models, and the motor from the earlier one.

It would need a nice comfy custom seat, looking like the original but
with just a little more give.

Sorted suspension. Fournales on the back, progressives on the front.

    Towbar.

Panniers that look like the old ones but work like the new.
    Topbox to suit.

integrated GPS/CB/Minidisk tucked into the fairing.

If it had to be just one bike I'd plump for a V65 Sabre (VF1100S) with the
valvetrain of a VF1000R to avoid the camchain / camshaft problems. My old
VF750SD was probably the greatest all round bike I'd ever owned and when I
found out an 1100 version existed overseas it just had to be the perfect
bike barring afformentioned valvetrain weaknesses. Otherwise it'd likely be
    two or three bikes.

It would have to be a full faired sports bike. 1000cc Twin, 16 valves....a TLR with the full titanium
"bling-bling" lightweight thang done to it.
    Titanium fasteners,
    Black frame,
either Marvic Carbon rims or Oz Racing alloys.
    Bitubo forks and rear conversion.
QB Carbon Carbon fibre bodywork (Sidepanels, front fairing, bellypan, tail, tank)
    Harris rearsets
    Power Commander IIIr
Full Madaz or Yoshimura Titanium hi mount system
    Ported, polished and shaved heads.
And to top it off for the touring, Givi panniers and a custom mounting system that can be easily removed and
    is discreet..

    That or a 998RS! Woof!

    CBR600F4i or RR type with
sensor/actuated mirrors that follow your visor/eye level and adjust
according to your position on the bike
3 or 4 pre programmed suspension setting and maybe engine settings
tilt sensor that lets you know if parking on a particular slope/angle is a
    very smart idea,
    Trigger controlled HUD
    programmable shift light
    adjustable rear sets
big nice comfy seat for touring which could possibly be deflated (if it was
a gel seat, the gel pack could sit in the glove box) for when you want to go
    fast/be sleek
integrated alarm system with engine immobiliser
BIG BRIGHT SHINY EYE TEARING PAINT JOB... pardon the caps.. needed to
    emphasise that...
trigger controlled, gradually applied hydraulic oggy knobs
All I can think of right now.. could also add a display for tyre
    temperature/distribution to the HUD..
    ....air horns..

  12. A road worthy RC211V with about 12mths worth of development to turn it into
a bit more of a real world bike. So I can commute on it.

  13. You've got me thinking now. I was originally going to say "Ducati
998R factory superbike", but you're talking a whole bigger realm of
    fantasy.

Hmm, how about something with an "automatic mode", where it can do
1:30 flat around EC while I perch atop it, alternately giggling like a
schoolgirl and screaming in terror. Then I can flip a switch back
into manual mode and try to follow the lines it just showed me. Or
maybe it'd have a difficulty level, where you set it to do 1:45 or so
and try to beat that, then turn it up a notch and try to beat its time
    again. That'd be cool.

Actually, I'd really like a bike that costs almost nothing to repair
after a crash. Some kind of magic that makes it not break bits off
itself whenever it falls over (at speed or at a standstill). That's
    what we really need. :)

...and something better than leathers, to stop the hurting bits too.

  16. Hmmm.

I would build a bike that really could do everything well. That would get
laptimes as quick as a GP bike, but would still be comfortable to tour all
day, 2-up, on all sorts of different roads, carrying lots of luggage. It
would also have some sort of force-field to keep the bugs off my face, and
to keep my dry if it was raining. In fact, the force-field would work so
well that if it was raining, the road in front of the wheels would be
automatically dried, and heated up to make it nice and sticky. Additionally,
if you crashed it, neither the bike, nor the rider or pillion would be
damaged in any way. You'd just get up, and be on your way again. Better yet,
lets make it impossible to crash. It'll also be good on a motorcross track,
or a fire-trail. It'll have reverse gear. Um, it'll look exceptionally sexy,
and sound very loud to boot. It will also be so endearing to cops and
speed-camera-photo-readers alike, so that no matter what I do, I never get a
fine. It'll also require zero maintenance, never need to be filled up with
petrol, couldn't be stolen, and would always be waiting for me at the front
door, wherever I was. (Even if I'd taken a plane to another country.) Oh,
and no-one else would have one.

If we were limited to what's currently available, but with a money-no-object
idea, it'd be a ZZR-1200, custom seat, custom electic screen, custom
adjustable bars, top-of-the-line suspension, wheels, tires, brakes, etc,
super-charged engine (hey, it's possible, and money's no object) titanium
everything. Carbon-fibre everything else, custom luggage, intercom with cb,
cd, and phone, air horns, loud exhausts (probably still a 4-2, or a 4-2-1-2,
'cause I like the look of the 2 cans), VERY sticky tires, indicators in the
mirrors, and where the indicators are now replaced with spot-lights, a
uni-go hitch (but one that can be removed easily), and a color-matched
uni-go. Hmmm. That's about it. But then of course there would be several
other bikes in the garage. R1150GS Adventure, with more custom bits, ZX10R
    race bike, pocketbike, etc etc.

Aprilia RSV250W (the factory endorsed Rotax engine one) with road going
ascessories (no side stand needed). Plain jane diablo black will do (no need
for the repsol or tobacoo stickers). Just so that I can give a couple of R1
and GSXR-1000 guys a run for their money.

One of those thingies they fly round on in The Return of the Jedi on
that bloody Ewok planet. Thats kind of like a bike but without
wheels, and when someone cuts you up in traffic, you just blow their
    car up. Nice.
