That's exactly why I don't want to bring it to any mechanic :)
Sound pretentious I guess but I sure most of you change your oil. I do so
and do it well because it is MY money and MY life sitting on the bike.
Car/bike mechanics do it to earn money to buy food.

Besides, not all mechanics are qualified... I am in electronics and replaced
a guy who had a very bad bike accident. 3 months only and mainly to prepare
my DR750 for Africa. The boss: "What can you do?" Me: "I can fix your TV,
install an electronic mouse-trap on your Ducaty Monster..." The boss: "Here
is a GSX1000R that needs 4th and 5th gear changed".

    The DR-Z would be new.

It is a great bike, low maintain and very strong, rear shock is a horror
though , has very strong rebound that is impossible to dial out, had
mine revalved and shimmed , also had a spring to suit weight, all up
$500 by Frank Pons at biketek, made it much much better,
Try a rear tank , it is easy to fit and can be removed when not needed ,
hold 5 litre, (thats over 200 k's range in the desert)

look into it and you might be pleasantly surprised at how little it does
    cost
    to make them pay

Best bit is just to do your own oil changes etc then get the extra things
you couldn't be arsed to do done my your local mech. By that, I mean the guy
that survives by doing servicing, and not sales. If it's a shit service, he
    doesn't eat.

I do this quite regularly and just get my book stamped as I have a good
relationship with my mech and he knows what I am capable of.

Knows what you'll do to him if he doesn't stamp your book? :)
