    Hi

Thinking of buying an parallel imported Honda Shadow, but I have heard
scare stories re: parts deliberately not same as UK bikes, not same
Horse Power, massive import duties on spares...??

Any comments to guide me please?

    Cheers

How old, how big, mileage and all that crap?

I have just finished a few years of absolutely blissful ownership of a
    couple of VT500's.

MG was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Obviously, a large manufacturer like Honda is deliberately changing
parts from market to market as the dimished returns to scale will be
more than compensated for by the increased profit margin.

    Not.
Some German and French market bikes were limited to 100bhp. Usually
    overcome fairly easily.
And what do *you* think the manufacturer is being charged when they
    bring in spares, eh?
Yes. If you heard it from a bloke down in the pub, I'd change pubs.

Its brand new and will obviously be pre-registered by the dealer.

Its a VT750DC - in Uk called Shadow, elsewhere Europe, Black Widow.

As far as I can see its only the clock that has KPH instead of MPH...

It is the new one, the one with the shite styling what is pretending to
be a VMAX and doing a rather bad job of it. Buy a British spec VMAX and
    be done with it.

I have heard absolutely nothing regarding reliability and the like about
these new styled ones. Which probably means they are fine.

33kW don't seem much power to haul around over a quarter of a tonne of
    bike

Spares won't be an issue. Nor are they likely to be any more expensive
than for 'native' bikes. Dealers are all thieving cunts regardless of
where they source their bits from.
