Doris Lowe. South Midland ACU

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by Andrew Taylor, Apr 19, 2005.

  1. Does anyone remember Doris Lowe who was on the committee and a life member
of South Midland ACU in the 1970s and 80s? She used to live in Mobray Road,
Edgware but is no longer listed in the telephone book. I would suspect she
is no longer with us. The reason I ask is that her husband was a keen
photographer and I helped clear Doris's loft. I have his collection of glass
negatives and some prints of motorcycling through the 30s to the 60s. I am
moving to Canada and am putting them up for auction, and hope that someone
will print them up. Does anyone remember Mr Lowe's first name as I would
    like to attribute them correctly.

Doris used to ride a Fanny Barnet 200, and she still had her husband's Royal
Enfield 500 which was fully restored and shown. Doris also had a Triumph TR3
and was a really fun lady even when I knew her in her mid to late 60s.

    Thanks for reading.

Probably Bob Lowe, who was President of South Midland and one of the
original trustees of the Benevolent Fund.

  4. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Andrew Taylor"
Arthur? Jowly individual, had a penchant for whisky.

  5. Thanks very much. It was Bob, your suggestion jogged my memory. I also
remember now that he was president of SM ACU as was Doris some years after.

I also found a 16mm film called 'The Right Line'. A compendium of Scot 6 Day
Trial at Cadwell, Motorcross GP at Hawkstone Park, 1960 TT and German GP.

  7. For very 'young people' it is a 'Francis Barnet' which was a type of old
British two-stroke. I had one for a while, made it a bit production racing
with clips ons, rear sets and a fibreglass tank and seat. I sold it and the
new owner turned right at a junction and the headstock snapped! I thought it
was amusing, but he didn't see it that way, so I gave him half of his money
    back.

Didn't one of the 'new' Triumph's have that same problem recently? Speed
    Triple, or something wasn't it?

    Regards
