Squirrelbrain here can't remember who that would be, sorry. If you
recognise yourself :) could you please get in touch via timo <at> the
    above domain?

One of the people on an MX5 message forum I frequent wants to get a
nosecone for an MX5 shipped to the UK, but is getting silly quotes due
to the size (not the weight) of the item. Any suggestions?

Thats *always* going to be expensive. As its presumably almost all cube
vs. weight it might be worth phoning around a few airfreight(1) people,
asking for a 'non-urgent/slow' service. There is a chance someone out
there has an 'all weight' air shipment and can fill the space up(2).
Sea freight is going to attract a load of minimum charges in addition to
the freight so all the 'extras' need to be double checked in advance..

1: Air freight has a bigger allowance of capacity vs weight
2: Its a one off, not regular business, so its a long shot, but possible

A conversation I have with people on a daily basis:

    Them: Wow, that's really expensive!

Me: No it isn't, it's just more than you thought it would be.

I had a of an idiot crying today because he thought that we'd stay an
extra day on a ship moored on the Tyne just kicking lumps of steel
around when we'd worked without meal breaks for 3 days to get his job
done quickly and I then told him he wouldn't get any money off because
it was quoted work. Like the **** would have paid extra if we'd taken
a day more than we'd quoted...
