Don't take your Blackbird off road...

  1. ....'cos they tend to break.

Rider locked up the front while braking well before the bend, and low sided
it. Despite following the bike along the road, against the curb, into the
air, and down into a field, narrowly missing a concrete marker post, he was
    absolutely fine - lucky lad.

Dunno what the other side of the bike looks like - we decided that rather
than get covered in mud, we'd let the Carole Nash recovery people find out.

  2. Clumsy twat.

Best just to plough it under, IMHO.

It looks like the centre stand's been ripped off.

Clumsy twat. At least he's okay.

As he won't be needing it now, can I have his tank bag? It may be worth
a bob or too still if I flog it on ebay.

  7. A twat, no. Clumsy, well quite possibly - rather too enthusiastic on the
brake methinks. The good news is that a 7 month old girl still has a Daddy
    tonight.

It must be great to be one of the privileged few who were born knowing
everything there is to know about riding motorcycles, without ever having to
learn any lessons the hard way. ;-)

  8. I took my knocks, like everyone else. But I learned to brake properly on
    low-powered bikes.

How long had this character been riding?

  11. Good strategy. I found out the hard way what happens when you lock the front
up, on a Honda 50, back in 1969. Actually, I was amazed, 'cos the front
brake was utterly crap and I didn't know you could do that! I suffered a
torn jacket and a badly bruised ego, but nothing more.
No idea, only met him yesterday at the start of the ride. Been a member of
the club for a couple of years, apparently. He's in the "nothing I could
have done about it" denial phase at the moment. Hopefully, someone will put
him right before he gets another bike.

On another tack, I found out last night that Carole Nash sent a recovery
truck all the way up to North Notts from Dartford, taking 4.5 hours to
arrive on scene, instead of the original estimate of 90 minutes. The bloke
was not impressed, and neither was the guy who stayed with him. By that
time, the kindly farmer had winched the bike out of the field.

Gnnnn. Don't mention the CBS ...

Right, since you mention it, the CBS does work, very well, even on
chossy stuff, gravel and wet tarmac.

I've only ever locked the rear once, and that was with the gearbox,
    not the brakes.

I've only ever locked the front once, (and that's really difficult to
do), when WVM pulled out on me.

People panic about braking in the wet on these, but i've been
witnessed as braking on wet gravelly roads, on bends, with moderate
    rear with no problem whatsoever.

I'd really hesitate to do this on the 12R, as the rear brake is a bit
    on/off.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Downgrade the rear pads from the OEM HH ones to EBC Carbon ones - a lot
less grabby, and more usable rear braking.
