Cleaning spokes is a bloody horrible job. There *must* be some magical device that'll do the job for me. <Thinks> Do scouts do bob-a-job week any more?
Wonder Wheels is bad for chrome. Wonder Wheels will make galvanised finishes (as a lot of spokes are) look lovely for a few days, then they will be worse.

solvol etc is totally appropriate), but the spokes are simply cadmium plated. The cadmium wears very quickly as soon as you start to polish it with anything abrasive, so unless you start with and stick to soapy water on the spokes, you end up living in a world of rust that gets worse the more you try and polish it away.

They need cleaning more than once a year. Anyway, a spray with TFR and blast with the hose pipe 5 minutes later and they're done. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Take them off and do them on a pipe axle clamped in a vice, it's so much easier. Or get a bike ramp. They stopped it after lots of dirty old men kept asking them to clean their spokes for them.
Have a look at the Lakeland website. They do all sorts of nifty cleaning products adn brushes: I'll bet one would fit the bill. Ali
Astonishing. My nice alloy Boranni rim Guzzi wheels have stainless spokes. I use soapy water and occasionally very dilute Swarfega Acid Metal Cleaner [1] to sort out the brake dust. Of course everyone knows that this is a lie as Italian bikes have shit finishes that can't stand UK weather. [1] http://www.deb.co.uk/ukswarfega/(2l2hs4455atgf0i1oke1wlrb)/product.aspx?id=174
