Don't, just don't, OK?

A bloke not far from me has a GSX1400. He's decided that it isn't
powerful enough with a race can and re-chip, and has ordered a turbo
    kit for it.

That will pump them up to ~135bhp, from reports I've seen.
    What, like this?

I don't think that you're wrong about that - but the RF produces more
power in standard and "derestricted" form than the comparable Bandit12
motor. Aside from that issue, I don't think that the Bandit engine
would fit in the space allocated to the 900. The top end of the 900
is a _very_ tight fit between the frame rails (like 20 minutes to
wiggle the cam cover off) and the 1200 is both taller and wider ...
    One of these ...

I had no problems exept that it just would not start sometimes.

You could check everything, twice, then just leave it, make a coffee:
and it would just work. Frustrating.

I saw an indicated 145mph on it once.

If you do, let me know what it's like, as I'm still considering one of
    those for the b12.

I have a Renault like that now.
I saw 130+ on mine going round the swoopy bumpy bendy bits of the M60,
circumnavigating Manchester in a hurry (well, you would, wouldn't you)
    - but - and this is a big but - the speedo under-read by ridiculous
amounts. I'd be sticking with the traffic in a 30 zone, speedo
reading 20 ... the day of the M60 mania, I met Malc (TQM) on the M62.
Never having ridden with him before, I asked what speed he liked to
cruise at and we agreed around the ton.

A couple of miles down the M62 I slowed to let Malc catch up from a
bunch of thick traffic and he gave it a handful to draw alongside,
pointing at his speedo. It's easy to see the speedo on his BMW and
there it was, past vertical, showing ~110 ... the VF was showing 95.

Hmm. Didn't realize that. Is that true of all of them ?

    Mine was a fd, Like:

Thinking about it now, I knew fully about the cam problems when I
bought it, but, as it was mint, low mileage and F cheap, I didn't give
a toss. I only needed it to last 18 months.

I assume not ;-) Mine is/was a lemon in all senses of the word.
Mine is a 1985 model. Research threw up the cam problem (as in
vomited it onto my lap) but the engine was sound when I bought it as a
semi-runner with no Mot. 550 quid all in, including new collector,
c'n's and MoT pass certificate seemed reasonable for a bike with 35K
on the clock. It did me for a summer and taught me a lot about bikes,
    fear and fading brakes.

I'll sort it out one day; I really must get round to having a serious
    look at it.

Lovely, it was. I'd forgotten about that until just now.
That's very generous of you, young man.

However, I do have the Clymer BoL for it - and I've just decided to
trike the fucker - with a car engine. **** it ;-)

I use the bike in the peak district frequently, my exhaust can be heard
a good few miles away which when combined with the local constabularies
propensity for roadside checks is not an ideal combination.

I simply want to drop the noise a little bit, but don't want the
restrictive endcan with the <spit> catalitic convertor in it.

I like them (especially rorty ones on a twin - ref. Monz or Eddie), I
just don't feel the need to have them. The BOS's are louder and
release more power than stock, if I un-stealthed them any more, i'd be
    up for a tug.

And unfortunately I have no marks on them (CEE or Kite), they're not
marked "not for road use", they're just not marked, full stop.

    Cheers

    Paul.
