I think it's a fucking disgrace that they got 5% of the vote.

Why? They're obviously saying something that people are agreeing with...

In the same way UKIP have - and Labour most definitely have not.

I mean it's a fucking disgrace that 5% of the people who vote are
supporters of an openly racist party like the BNP.

Of course, I wouldn't expect someone from South Africa to understand
    /why/ I think this is a disgrace.

Are you saying it's a disgrace because the party is openly racist, or that
    people are voting for it?

Whether I understand or not, isn't really the point - what I'm saying to you
    is :
    a) has this number gone up since the last election?
    b) if it has, does that mean there are more racists, or does it mean that
the BNP have changed their line to something people find more appealing?

If it's something more appealing, then the fact that 5% of people voted for
them should not be a surprise as, AFAIU, that's how politics works,
especially when it comes to people who are not dyed-in-the-wool members of
    one or other party.
Bit of a stupid comment really, all things considered.

  7. at a guess because

    a) what the bnp stands for is obnoxious
    b) people that are that stupid to agree with the bnp should be shot at
    birth (in darsy's NSHO)

Given that the Sun, Express and Daily Mail have been hollering from the
rooftops about immigration and spongers and gypsies about to invade the
uk it is no surprise that people will vote for the bnp. The bnp simply
trot out simplistic crap that aligns to the mendacious reporting from
    these appalling newspapers.

No matter what other policies they bolt on, and how much they try to gloss
over it at heart the BNP preaches racism. Nothing else about them matters
and it is depressing to find that so many people are prepared to tolerate
that racism, or even synpathise with it.

I don't know if depressing is the right word. It's what I've come to
expect. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not excusing it since I deplore
the BNP and their ilk. I just don't trust the 'great british
electorate' to either see the lie that's before them or give a shit when
    it doesn't affect them directly.

Folks obviously haven't bothered to do the simple thing like go to there
BNP web site and have a read of what is on there.[1] If they did they
might be a little less inclined to support them.

[1] Worrying it is, especially when you consider that what is on there
is the public statements of their intentions and makes no note of any
    private agendas they may have.

Maybe I'll stand next time round for the "Puppy Stranglers" party, with a
variety of low-tax, consumer-friendly policies and see how I get on.
(Really, puppy strangling is just a very minor part of our party: not
something people need to worry about, and grossly mis-interpreted.)
