Dont forget to VOTE

Well I've just got back from the polling station where the nice lady
very politely told me to get orf their land as my address has no
registered electors. It seems that my having posted their form back to
    them last October is irrelevant.

I was given a telephone number for the electoral services dept. of the
council and spoke with a woman who said that it had "become clear they
have a massive problem with the Royal Mail" based on the number of
people phoning to complain today compared to previous elections. She
could only offer to post me a registration form so I can vote in future
elections but I am welcome to write to the returning officer to
register my complaint. As this will accomplish precisely diddly squat
    I declined.

So there you go, good enough to pay council tax, good enough to pay
income tax but not allowed to vote. Cunting Royal Mail bastards.

Except that if you did it will provide the returning officer with more
ammo to go and give the Royal Mail a kick up the arse. They are in deep
shit over their performance with the postal ballot areas and they need
to be held accountable for preventing people voting due to their
    appalling performance.

I'd E Mail the Prime Minister via the Number 10 website as you have been
deprived of democratic rights due to incompetence by a public body.
good grief - that is appalling. The postal service really is a pile of
old shit isn't it? Still at least they made £200m profit, have a totally
pissed off workforce, a monopoly and didn't meet a single performance
target. Even LUL is in better shape than that (before anyone makes the
    usual comparison).

I suppose there is some merit in registering a complaint, even though
it won't give me my vote for this election.
I can't help thinking that they have successfully turned around the
financial performance of the company by reducing the quality of the
service. I'm sure they would deny it, but I know of so many people who
have many more gripes, misdelivered mail, lost letters, than in the
past that it has to have a common thread. This is especially notable
reading the eBay group upce, on which many are sellers who rely on the
    post.
I must admit that, as someone who uses the tube 3 weekdays in 5 on
average, I actually find it efficiently run. Not a trendy thing to say
    mind you.

I opted for the Old Age Pensioners Party in the end, or whatever it
    was called.

I had my postal vote papers, but until tonight hadn't had them witnessed
by someone that knows me. By the time that was done it was too late to
post them so I had to drive to the only polling station in the city (as
all the others were closed due to it being postal voting) in order to
place them in a ballot box before the 10PM deadline.

Mandatory postal voting is pathetic, and I'm convinced it will only
serve as a further waste of taxpayers money.

Mandatory voting would be more to the point. Vote, or get a fine.

Feel free to spoil your ballot, but at least the lazy cunts who "can't
be bothered" would have to make some effort.

Sounding slightly patronising, but those who have never not had a vote, or
experienced places where it does not happen, will never appreciate how
important and defining thing it is, if only as an expression of personal
    freedom.

Oh yeah, I'd be fine with that.

What I really think we need though is a postal ballot, with the option
to take the papers to a local polling station instead, rather than only
    a central one.

AOL but I almost forgot. Just back from the polling station now. I think I
must have been the last one to vote.

  13. Well none of us have a vote until we are 18 so being able to vote for
the first time is still a defining moment IMO. It is just not on the
same scale as in the example you provide.

I did wonder whether to vote this time or not (I didn't vote in the
first London Mayoral election partly out of protest) but decided I
should do the right thing as we get so little opportunity to have our
    say.

I might actually be eligible for an award for living about 5 yards from the
voting station and never having voted in my life, so far. You think that
takes no effort? No committment? In the words of Luther from The Warriors
    "You're crazeeee".

We only got one vote down here but I got to cast mine in a modern art
gallery. Hove (Westbourne) have *the* polling station.

Had some pretty nasty demons shouting in my ear when I went to vote but
seeing the plethora of my little nazi parties out came the tactical
    voting elf.

WTF are the English Democrats anyway?

I dunno, but when I saw that my first thought was "National Socialist".

Personally I'm gutted the British Legion of Fascists isn't still
going. I like a party that wears its ideology on its sleeve.

    Literally.

Um, not completely convinced, depends on the detail.
I agree - write none of the above or doodle or compose a socio
political theory on the back but at least vote. Especially women.
We've not had it long let's use it.

I'm sure I read on ukrm a few months back, just after they tried to
privatise the RM, that the govt. would underfund it until the service
got so bad they'd have no trouble with privatisation take 2.
