Don't Buy Until You Test Ride!

  1. I think that is pretty much standard at all Beemer dealers in the US. My
local dealer in Rochester (NY) is having an advertised demo ride day
tomorrow, but you can get a ride on any day of the year, weather
permitting. New ones and used ones.

If they know you, usually you can take an extended ride with no guide.
For new folks, one of the guys, probably a salesman, will ride along
    with you on another bike.

Hey, a couple years ago I took one out for .. five days. Brought it back
    and handed them a check.

  2. You younger riders out there, this is how it used to be. Any Saturday or
    Uh, sorry, that was me.
I test rode a Yamaha Turbo Seca, it was definitely used when i was done with
    it.

  4. Couple of years ago, the local BMW dealer here told me to take one of
the bikes for the weekend and give it a trial. No, I didn't know the
salesperson, or the manager, it was their policy to do this for people
who already rode, trying to entice them to purchase a BMW. I hated the
bike, and carried it back the same day.

i bought an AN400 without a test ride. this was after owning a couple of
honda helixes, and doing a lot of research. did some "seat time" at a
dealer, read the owners manual front to back, played with the switches,
    mirrors, side/centerstand.

found a dealer that was selling at MSRP, out the door. went, paid cash,
    rode away.

test rides would be nice, but if its something im sure i want, ive never
needed one. and ive never been unhappy with my purchase, either.

if it doesnt fit me, a test ride isnt going to change things. if it DOES
fit me, and im comfortable, im pretty much going to know how its going
    to perform.

you had a valid automobile license, didnt you?

i wouldnt let anyone test ride a 2-wheeler i was selling, private party,
unless they had a motorcycle endorsement on their license.

You're right, a test ride won't change a poor fitting bike. But,
wouldn't you want to know it didn't fit you BEFORE you bought the
    thing?
