I have, after a struggle, ripped the old radiator off the er5.
It took some head scratching to get the electrics off.
I've rerun the wires for the heated grips under the tank, so that should
be a bit neater in the end.
With the front off, I can see the 'header pipes'(?); the manifoldy bit
where the hot comes out. They look rather 'heat treated'. Anyway,
skipping to the point. Since I have the front bits off is there any
maintenance I should be thinking of doing before I put it all back
together? Not that that's going to be soon, the flipping radiator vendor
from whom I ordered on Monday was unexpectedly out of stock, so was his
supplier, and parceline now say they've *lost* the 'next day' delivery.

Also, how deadly deadly is coolant after you've sloshed bits up your arm?

It isn't. Just keep it off the paintwork and don't drink it.

It won't harm you, unless you drink it! It will mark paintwork.
But, make sure you wash any away on the ground, as the smell can attract
    pets who drink it.
    It's normally fatal!

    :eek:D I mended my bike!
I've been round the block and the fluid didn't fall out, the bike isn't
on fire and it's not sitting in a puddle atm. I feel really really
proud; and scared of riding it again.

Congrats! It's always a great feeling when one fixes something,
especially if there aren't too many bits left over afterwards!

Being rather cautious, I generally keep a close eye on fluid levels,
fasteners etc. for the first few outings until I'm confident that I
    haven't overlooked anything.

Cheers for the offer, but waking up at 10:30 as I did, and realising
that geographically I'm diametrically positioned to you across England,
I jump started the bloody thing and went for a bimble up the A6, a
boring ride as it turned out. I thought there was something exciting up
there but I must have missed the turning. Nothing fell off and I'm home
    safe.
I had previously wondered why the hell anyone would want to ride over to
    Hull.
What's happened to the Northern crowd? Are they all still bike-less
    having fallen off?

Whom do you mean by the "Northern crowd"? I think we're currently the
    only bikeless Tynesiders.

Tbh, I'm not sure. I could well be speaking out of turn. Especially if
there's debate to be had about how far north is North. The vocal
demographic seemed to be London centric.
I've only actually met one UKRMmer more than once but I heard stories of
    others.

Ah. I took you to mean that your latitude was Hull-ish, whence north
    takes you up our way.

How far north is North? Whatever you want it to be. For my first job I
moved north to Coventry. I now go south to Leeds.

I'm a Manchester postcode, almost equidistant from ALL decent riding
roads. It seems I can ride for about an hour in any direction before
seeing anything like a de-restriction sign.
