doing a darsy

well, not exactly, don't want comparisons between one thing and
another, but...

anyone got an iPaq RX3100? I'm tempted by one I've seen on eBay for use
as a universal remote controller for my PVR/as a remote media access
device, but would like first hand opinions of the things...

 

I would look into the model closely. Some IR ports aren't strong
enough to be used as remote controls, like the one on my 4150. As for
ipaqs in general I've not been overly impressed with HP's attitude to
customers. If you don't want to update anything after and are happy
with WYSIWYG, bugs and all, HP will do but Dell seem to be much better
in ongoing support and updates.

The RX3100 has wireless-b.

 

Ah - in that case check the software pack - the 4150 comes with
terminal services which works ok over wireless b.

Although you can add stuff it's much easier to have it in the ROM so
you don't have to keep re-install when you need to do the inevitable
hard-resets.
