Dodgy tire?

  4. I've been told that this isnt the case and that the depth of tread (or
    rubber on the carcass) makes a difference to how easily the tyre warms
    up. Worn down tyre means there is less rubber on the carcass to move
    about so it wont warm up as easily. Dunno if this is the case.

    Its been over 3 years since I've had a nice new pair of road tyres on
    a road bike[1] so I dont really know.

    [1] Always used shagged out old race tyres that although still have
    loads of tread have had the rubber go off through all the heat cycles
    - but still alright for commuting on.

    This is of course quite correct. The tread 'squirms' and this
    movement generates heat.

    One of the reasons why slicks are so sticky is that they can use much
    stickier rubber without overheating. This effect can also be seen if
    you do a track day on a road orientated tyre like a BT010 - it'll
    overheat, and shed rubber
    heh. You really are a pikey road racer, aren't you.
