Do they think we're morons?

    OK, this needs exploring.

What if When God created you he expected you to make decisions, interact
with the world following the conventions of the society he placed you
in, for example voting... Perhaps in not doing so your current actions
are frustrating him..... How would you know?

The difference is, you'd be trolling, whereas Phil actually believes it.
Hence the attempts to explain the thinking, and the confusion as Phil seems
to be engaging in contradictory circular arguments that he believes are
    *all* true.

Now, where did I put that deluxe Electric Monk...

Also, this non voting thing is a man made conclusion, in any case.

Although it is defended by bible verses such as "In the world but not of
it" etc, there doesn't appear to be one line which says that Christians
    shouldn't vote.

So it's more than possible that the whole concept is not part of God's
    plan after all.

Come on: neither of those quotes actually says you shouldn't vote.
That rule is a man made edifice using those quotes only for support.

Find me a line which says: "You should not take part in chosing a
leader for the country you live in" or similar.

Your second quote does not lead where you think it does. A line of
(erroneous) logic might lead there, but the quote doesn't.

There are loads of lines like that, but IMHO they talk about christains
not taking on the world's values and have nothing to do with voting.

That's the beauty of it: it's all so esoteric, arcane and open-ended and
it's all about interpretation. The reality that the most applied minds in
the world can't agree on the interpretation doesn't really bode well for the
layman. In short, it might be the truth, but if anyone has found this out
    they can't convince everyone else.

Ok, I'll rephrase. You wouldn't be "trolling", but you would be spouting
something that others know you don't believe in, in order to get a response.
    Better?
Could be, but notice (again) the difference - Phil does in fact *believe*
what he's saying, and is being rather polite in the face of almost universal
    disagreement.

I think that in this aspect of his life he's off his fucking rocker and
personally don't understand *why* or *how* someone can stand to live that
way, but it doesn't follow that I have to be abusive. I'm just happy picking
gaping wide holes in his reasoning :)

True, but one feels that if it were true, then they should probably take
the issue a bit more wholeheartedly.

I would expect to see them also share all their wealth amongst
themselves, eschewing personal ownership for a start.

  19. Yes and Labour should have reversed all this claptrap.
In your view why haven't Labour made things better then along the lines
espoused by two posters in this part of the thread?

The lack of delivery on important issues where they really HAVE to undo
what the Tories did rather than rebadge it as "not as bad as before but
really still quite acceptable to middle class morons" is a major reason
why I am unlikely to vote Labour. 8 years of huge majorities, next to no
opposition and healthy public finances have been squandered.

I can't see that there is any more drive or vigour left in the Labour
policy position and given the almost certain lack of a big majority
there is even less likelihood of anything remotely controversial (i.e.
    good) getting through parliament.

    It's all horribly depressing.
