I dunno. As a parent I have an usual abnormal interest in IQ and it's

I don't think they're allowed in the polling station and the paper's not
    allowed out. IIRC.

So you're saying not doing anything because somebody else will isn't an
    abdication of responsibility?

To paraphrase: "God's in charge, so I don't have to make any
    decisions" - yes?
But you are part of the political process. Unless you and your fellow
believers do what the Plymouth Brethren did and go and set up your own
little society, merely existing within the UK makes you part of the
political process. You have jobs, you pay taxes, you obey the law of
    the land. It's all politics.

They were just becoming popular in the UK when I were in short keks and
in the Great and Glorious County of Kent, which is of course the place
of my birth, where we had a 3 stream higher education system.
Traditional Secondary Mod, Traditional Grammar and, at the top of the
tree, Technical (Grammar with added science).

In order to select meaningfully for the Technical stream they relied
very heavily on raw IQ testing data from 11+ results. My junior school
    was untypical in two respects:

1/ Every single pupil in class 1 passed their 11 plus, half of the
pupils in class 2 passed while half failed and 3 class three failed in
    it's entirety.

2/ All pupils practised with dummy IQ tests for some time beforehand.
About half a dozen of us did an additional two a day in the 2 weeks
running up to the exam and ended up being offered the choice of *any*
    school in the county.

Sorry, didn't understand the options on the automated telephone
ordering system. I just wanted something nice for the meek, that's
    all.

  14. Not quite: God is in charge so I don't want to do something that
    contradicts his plan.
I disagree - to me politics is taking an active part in the formal
political process - ie voting, standing as local or national candidates
or working as a canvasser or researcher for a political party. Politics
comes into play when you try to *change* the way that things work.

The things you mention are requirements of the country that we live in
and as such (covered by the 'obey the ruling authorities' banner) are
things which are my duty to do.

What is *not* my place to do is to try to determine who rules the
country (or indeed my local council).

  15. You are both missing the point - it's not an abdication of
responsibility because I am not responsible in the first place.

To go back to my analogy of living in another country - is it an
abdication of responsibility of a UK citizen if they don't vote in US
    elections?

  16. God determines who rules - yes.
No. Wrong end of the stick.

If the plan is that one party is elected and I vote for another then it
could be seen that I am (unwittingly) trying to frustrate what God has
decided. Which might not be seen as a Good Thing(TM)

    That's because they're cunts.

Feel free to slag them off, they aren't allowed access to T'internet,
newspapers, TV, radio etc... Basically anything that might bring them into
    the 19th century..

I think you've missed the gist of the plot rather.

In no way was I espousing a view that the Tories would do it better.
The point was that when Labour came to power, I was disappointed that
they didn't undo the damege the Tories had done, and more, they
continued to puretrate aspects of it.
Again, that wasn't quite my point, I was expressing disapponment in now
    historical facts.

I don't know, but the Lib Dems are the only ones speaking anything like
the right message at the moment for me.
    Oh, agreed.

Well what about the option available to me when I was a student voter. Re
Open Nominations (RON)[1]. Basically, "I have no confidence in any of the
candidates, and want others to choose from".

A couple of guys in the elections lost to RON, which barred them from
standing in the second election. And they didn't get the piss ripped out of
    them at all :)

[1] Always great to see the defaced posters, "Vote RON for Union President -
    The only one that's not a ****..."
