    Spoil the ballot paper?
They do have to count how many were spoiled.

Perhaps if we found that more were spolied than were counted for the
winning candidate it would say something.

It would: it would say "you won" to the winning candidate, at which
point, they'd not give a shit.

Bear in mind that I'm not advocating it as a method of change, but I
think it would say more than that, if it were deliberate.

For a start, it's possible the press might pick up the issue.

Such a mass act could send out a strong message about the state of
    British politics.

feelings aren't really that strong though: the greatest majority can't
really be bothered to worry about it.

Write that on the paper; it'll be counted as spoilt but my understanding
is that messages like that are collated.

ITYF there'll be an alternative candidate (LD, ILib, Green, Respect, SA,
BNP [1], Bob Hope, UKIP, etc) but not a mainstream one.

Personally, I could not bear the thought of another Tory gov't; if you
think this lot are "self motivated" you'll have seen nothing until the
Tories reappear. It's almost their stated policy.

  10. Yup. I've seen one too here in Swindon. Not that there is even a tiny
chance that Swindon will ever vote Conservative.

Although given the job that the council has done recently I suspect
that there is a good chance that the LibDems will do well here.

  11. And those of us in the 150+ range skew the stats even further (he says
    modestly).

  12. Indeed you can - as I have done for all my adult life. Unlike places
like (say) Australia where it is compulsory to vote.

  13. Except that when you refuse to vote, you lose all right to whinge about the
    government that gets elected.

sure. I was trying to be fair to the mongs.

I know what my IQ is, and statistically, it suggests that out of a
random sample of 200 people including me, I'd have the highest IQ.

It wasn't until I took my current job that I realised this in
    actuality.

Is that like the rule that says when you leave a country you can no longer
winge on about how it is run?

I think I'm in favour of complusory voting, on balance, as long as
there is an option of "none of the above" (which in practise, could be
    just 'spoiling' the paper).

Civic society doesn't ask much of its citizens - to turn out and vote
every couple of years or so. Would you kick up a fuss if you were
    denied your opportunity to vote?

Don't be daft. The money that has been poured into schools is
enormous. The health service too. It might never seem enough, but
it's a **** sight more than there would have been under the tories.

You do realise how desperately sad boasting about IQ is, don't you?

heh. No, clearly, in that case, statistically there would be only one
person with the same or higher IQ than I have.

It's all bollocks anyway, of course, as IQ only measures how well you
can do in an IQ test.

I have some glaring holes in my intellectual abilities in any case.
